James “Jim” Fanney

MORRISTOWN — James "Jim" Fanney, born February 16, 1926 went home to be with the Lord on June 14, 2011.

His parents, seven sisters and seven brothers preceded him in death.

To forever cherish his memory, he leaves a son Ed of Kingsport, Tennessee, daughters Rita Ann Shelton of Morristown, Tennessee, Geri (Phelvaree) Smith of Copley, Ohio, also five special granddaughters and three grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Also, special and dear friend Ralph Watterson of Kingsport, Tennessee, caretaker and friend Mildred Vinson and special niece Patricia Fanney Clark.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Thorn Hill Baptist Church, Thorn Hill, Tennessee with Pastor Charles Simpson, Rev. James Goins, and Rev. Doyle Castel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until time of service.

Sgt. David McKinley Worley

Sgt. David McKinley Worley departed this life on June 12, 2011 at Duke Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Floyd and Virginia Worley. He was born in Bristol, Tennessee on January 7, 1951.
He was married to Ella Grant and to this union 2 sons were born.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1972 and was discharged in 1984. He was a member of A.S. Hunter Lodge #825.

He was active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Durham, NC

He was employed at Rocco Turkey plant, the house of Raeford and Qualey.

He is preceded in death by his mother, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

He leaves to cherish his memory three sons; Keith Worley and Terry Worley of Fayettevelle, NC and Juanvaris Worley of Durham, NC. Four grandchildren David, Melai, Daviona and Brianna of Fayetteville, NC. Three sisters; Carolyn Worley, Bristol, Va. Lorraine(James) Perry Detroit MI. Joette Coclough of Johnson City, TN.

One brother; Wilbur(Ruby) Worley of Johnson City, TN. Former wife: Particia Harper Worley. Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends, special thanks to James Perry, Kenneth Reed, and Tiara McWhorter.

Interment services for Sgt David McKinley Worley will be conducted from the V.A. National Cemetery, Mt. Home, TN, Wednesday June 22, 2011 at 2:00pm.

Military rites will be provided by D.A.V. Chapter #40, Bristol, VA.

The Cortege will depart Kingsport, 806 East Sevier St, at 1:00pm.

William “Bill” Luvene Sr.

MOUNT CARMEL — William “Bill” Luvene Sr., 59, of Mount Carmel, went to be with the Lord on Monday (June 13, 2011) at Church Hill Healthcare and Rehab Center.
Bill is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mrs. Peggy Luvene; children, William Luvene, Jr., Latanya Casteal, Brian Luvene, Denisha Luvene and Brandon Luvene; eight grandchildren and one on the way; six sisters; two brothers; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy 11W, Church Hill.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Derek Bell officiating.
Burial will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mr. Marcus Lewis

Marcus Lewis, Detroit, Mich.

Mr. Marcus Antonius Lewis, 39, died on June 3, 2011 at Botsford Hospital Detroit, Mich. He was born February 25th, 1972 and passed away June 3rd, 2011.

His Detroit visitation was held Tuesday, June 7th, 2011 at the O. H. Pye, III Funeral Home, with viewing at 11:00AM , Service at 12:00PM at Greater Love Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C., Detroit on Wednesday, June 8th, 2011.

Mr. Lewis' funeral services in Kingsport will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Shiloh Baptist Church, Kingsport. The Rev. Dr. Kenneth Calvert will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.

Mrs. Eula Leeper

Mrs. Eula Leeper, 75, of 954 Dale St. departed this life Friday morning, at Holston Valley Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Leeper was retired from The Neighborhood Service Center after 34 years of service. She was very active in her church serving as a Sunday School teacher, youth director, choir member, and pianist. She loved singing and never passed up an opportunity to lend her voice whenever called upon. Mrs. Leeper was a member of the Douglass Alumni Association (Sons and Daughters of Douglass) and was also very active with Kingsport Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Leeper was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Eula Cartwright and Mr. Thomas H. Cartwright; four brothers, Thomas Edward, Robert, Phillip, and Roy; three sisters, Lorraine Lollar, Emogene C. Hankins, and Shirley Gilmore.

Mrs. Leeper is survived by one daughter, Sheila Leeper; two sons Michael (Gerri) Leeper, and Gary (Milita) Leeper; three grandchildren, Tonya Leeper, Stan Coward, and Kadana Coward; five great grandchildren, Brenton Leeper, Terrell Leeper, Noah Davis, Aeriel Coward, and Josh Amos, Jr.; one brother, John (Donna) Cartwright, Sherman Oaks, CA; one sister, Sylvia (Thomas) Bond, McDonough, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Mrs. Leeper will be held at the Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church, 812 Maple-Oak Lane, Kingsport, TN on Monday, June 6, 2011, at 2:00p.m.

Elder Charles Hawkins will deliver the eulogy.

Interment will immediately follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. until the hour of service.
