Anna Ruth Watermann


COEBURN, Va. — Anna Ruth Watermann passed away Wednesday at Mountain View Medical Center in Norton, Va.

She was a former resident of Coeburn, Va.

Mrs. Watermann of Gloucester, Va. taught at Thomas C. Walker High School for 30 years. She served as assistant principal, instructor, and founded the first yearbook at T.C. Walker High School.

Mrs. Watermann received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Virginia Union University at Richmond, Va. and did graduate studies at Howard University, Washington, D.C. She received a Masters Degree from New York University.

In 1968, Mrs. Watermann was nominated Outstanding Personality of the South, served as Jury Commissioner, co-chair of Gloucester Chapter of the American Red Cross Fund Driver, secretary of the Bicentennial Historical Committee, and served for 21 years as treasurer of the National Association of University Women (Gloucester Chapter).

Mrs Watermann was honored by the Epsilon ETA Chapter, LOTA Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. for her community activities and as an outstanding educator in Cloucester, Va.

She was the daughter of the late Samuel Alexander ‘Sandy’ Turn - er and Emma Turner; also preceded in death by her husband, William H. Waterman; a sister, Louise Turner; six brothers; John Henry Turner, Robert Franklin Turner, Roy (Sandy) Turner, William Earl Turner, Hobert Turner and Sandy A. Turner.

Survivors include two sisters, Clara B. Jackson, Kingsport and Elizabeth Turner, Coeburn; and several nieces and nephews.

Bobby Joe Johnson


KINGSPORT — Robert “Bobby Joe” Johnson, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Feb. 21, 2012), at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.

Bobby Joe was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. He was retired from Tennessee Eastman Corp. after 36 years of service as a Lab Technician. He is a member of Bethel AME Zion Church, Kingsport, and was a star player on the old Douglass High School football and basketball teams back in the 1940's, having played on 3 championship teams.


He was a member of Bethel AME Zion Church, Kingsport. Mr. Johnson will lie in state from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Bethel AME Zion Church, 812 Maple Oak Street, Kingsport.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Charles A. Hawkins and the Rev. Joseph Commage, officiating.

Music will be provided by the church choir.

Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery, Surgoinsville.

His nieces and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Johnny Johnson, Buddy Bond, Jack Pierce and Harvey Stevens will be honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Joseph L. Davis


Mr. Joseph L. Davis, 54, departed this life on Monday afternoon at his residence after a brief illness.

Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. Friday until the hour of service at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Bishop Donald Morrison

MORRISON Bishop Donald Morrison, age 63, of Columbus, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

Brother Morrison was a native of Kingsport, Tennessee, and attended Douglass High School.

He led the World Church of Jesus Christ since 2003. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a Contractor prior to receiving his Call. He enjoyed fishing and bowling and was proud to have won the Pastors' Chili Cook Off last year.

He is survived by his wife, Pastor Lalie Morrison; children, Tiy Johnson, Brandie Morrison, and Don Morrison; step-children, Guytress, Lyplus, and Shanty; eight grandchildren; sisters, Marie and Paige; brothers, Carlos and Freeman.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Travelers' Rest Baptist Church, 1533 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, Ohio where friends will be received after 10 a.m. Friday.

Private interment at Dayton National Cemetery, 4100 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio.

Calvin McKinley Price Jr.


KINGSPORT — Calvin McKinley Price, Jr. was born Feb. 17, 1957 in Kingsport to the late JoAnn and Calvin M. Price Sr.

He severed his country in the U.S. Navy. Kenny was a member of Mount Zion Tabernacle Holiness Church having severed as the vice president of the Men’s Ministry. He was an active member of the West Virginia and East Tennessee Council and he served as the assistant secretary of the Men’s Ministry and in addition he was a member of the Council’s Security Team.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Nellie Price; and his maternal grandparents, Conlee and Monnie Maxwell.
He is survived by his four children, Calvin “Tra” Price III, Ms. Victoria
Price, Ms. Isabella Price, and Ms. Tammy Wolfe; his wife of 14 years, Ms. Lavonda Harris Price; two grandchildren; Josh and Tyler, all of Kingsport; four sisters; Ms. Valerie Shivers, Ms. Leslie (Clifton) Carpenter, Ms. JoRita Ferguson, Ms. Melissa ( Richard Sr) Williams all from Church Hill; two brothers, Victor ( Gretta) Simon of Nashville, Tenn. and Calvin Price of Dallas, Tex.; four aunts, Ms. Ola Beatrice Rogers of Gate City, Va.
