Nellie Swafford


KINGSPORT — Nellie Dovie Robinson Swafford, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Friday, (Aug. 24, 2012).

She was born in Meigs County, Tenn., but had lived in Kingsport most of her life where she raised her children. She was the matriarch of the family. Nellie was Valedictorian of her high school class.

Nellie was an active member of Mt. Zion Holiness Church, where she was an Elect Lady. She was a dedicated and devoted mother to all, opening her home to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Della Ray Robinson; husband, James L. Swafford; son, Xavier Timothy Hall; four sisters, Cecil Hall, Augusta Faye Johnson, Katheryn Hunter, and Flora Robinson; one brother, Elijah Robinson.

Survivors include her two daughters, Janet Horton and Kathy Swafford, both of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Tonya Horton, Anissa Carpenter, Monica Bell, Jennifer Dunn, Quejuana Horton, Rylee Billings, and Briana Hall; “special grandchildren,” T.J. and Indya Kittrell; nineteen great-grandchildren, including very special great-grandchild, Kallegha Alexander; special nieces and nephews, Tracey and Anissa Kittrell, Norma Dearmand, Donovan Hall, and C. T. Lawson; and a host of several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Holiness Church.

Funeral services will commence immediately following with Pastor Lester Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

Mr. Da’von A. Tarter


KINGPORT — Mr. Da’von A. Tarter, 20, 611 Lovedale St., Kingsport, departed this life on Friday (Aug. 24, 2012), at the Johnson City Medical Center from a motorcycle accident.

He was born in Nashville, but spent most of his life in Kingsport. He was a graduate of Daniel Boone High School. He was employed by Kids Expedition and Krystal’s in Johnson City. He was a loving person and well loved by the community. He especially loved children. He was a big hearted person and loved to help anyone in need. His friends lovingly say that he always had to have the last word. His little brother added that Da’von was a shoe addict.

He is preceded in death by his by his maternal grandparents, Ms. Nancy (Tarter) Dykes, Ulesses Miller; and special grandeur, James Swafford; and paternal grandparents, Eddie Erwin Sr. and Mrs. Marie Erwin, James Norman and Hope Norman.
He is survived by one daughter of Knoxville; mother, Ms. Sabrina (Tarter) Shoemaker; father, Mr. Eddie (Charlotte) Erwin Jr.: two sisters, Mrs. Nika (Phillip) Rawlings of Maryland, Miss Bianca Horton of Knoxville; and five brothers, Mr. Carlos Tarter, Mr. Harold Shoemaker, Eddie Erwin III, Cameo Erwin, and Gerald Smith; and several nieces and nephews; one aunt, Ms. Audrey Ealy; one uncle, Mark Erwin.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 5 p.m. from Powerful New Life Church with Pastor Hugh Hale officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the hour of service.

Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Victor Lewis Simon , age 59, of Smyrna transitioned from this life into eternal life Saturday, August 18, 2012.
