Deacon Charles Ellis Snapp

Deacon Charles Ellis Snapp, 88, Kingsport, departed this life, Friday (Dec. 7, 2012) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.


Charles Ellis Snapp was born in Hawkins County where he spent his childhood and early adulthood. The third of ten children, he was the son of Maggie and Ellis Snapp. He moved to Sullivan County (Kingsport) and married Elizabeth Leeper, who he affectionately called “GG” The couple became one and had three children: two sons James “Preacher” Snapp (deceased) Arthur Snapp, and an infant daughter (deceased).

Charles Ellis Snapp was preceded in death by his loving wife Mrs. Elizabeth Snapp; parents Ellis and Mrs. Maggie Hale Snapp: sisters, Ms. Nettie Leeper, Ms. Rebecca Ann Snapp; brother, James Barber Snapp, and his son Rev James E. Snapp.

He leave behind his legacy and love in the hearts of his son Arthur L. Snapp and daughter-in-law Mrs. Barbara Snapp of Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren: sister, Mrs. Katherine Howard, Mrs. Etta Mae Fanney, Mrs. Josephine Willis (all of Rogersville), Mrs. Bessie Peavy of Dayton Ohio, Mrs. Jannibelle Bristol of Kingsport: several nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Deacon Snapp made ground breaking history in his career, he was employed with Holston Valley Hospital (Welmont Health Systems) for thirty-four years employed as an orderly and later became the first African-American Supervisor of Orderlies.

Deacon Snapp was a man with strong Christian values. He was a man of principle and integrity. He served passionately in the Central Baptist Church for over 65 years.

Services for Deacon Charles Ellis Snapp will be conducted Saturday at noon from the Central Baptist Church with Pastor Ricardo F. Dorcean officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City,Va.

NASHVILLE — Joyvonna Nicole Austin Morelan “Joy,” 31, of Nashville, Tenn., died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2012) at Vanderbilt Hospital.


The funeral service will be held at Saturday,Dec. 15, 2012. Family will be receiving friends from 11 a.m. to noon. Funeral service from noon to 1 p.m. at Everlasting Life Church, 1801 Western Ave., Knoxville, Tenn 37921.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Unity Funeral Home in a Trust Fund for Joyvonna’s children.
Unity Mortuary of Knoxville, Tenn. is serving the Austin Morelan family.

Jeffrey Carpenter

KINGSPORT — Mr. Jeffery Carpenter , 51 departed this life Monday, (Dec. 3, 2012) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.


He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his father, Aubrey B. Carpenter.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mrs. Mary Carpenter; daughters, Ms. Anissa Carpenter, Mrs. Jennifer (Rashid) Dunn; brothers, Aubrey Jr. (Tobey) Carpenter, Ronald (Judy) Carpenter; sisters, Ms. Colleen Smith, Mrs. Angela Peters, Mrs. Donna (Raymond) Bowers, Ms. Kay Carpenter; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the VA National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn. with Pastor Ricardo Dorcean officiating.

The processional will leave the funeral home at noon.
