Mrs. Mary Ella Russell, 81, 960 Dale St., departed this life Wednesday (Feb. 18, 2015) at 4:37 a.m. at her residence.

Carrie Bernice Myrick


Carrie Bernice Myrick, age 84, of 831 Watauga Avenue, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Myrick was born in Inman, Virginia, a daughter of the late Shannon and Helen Phillips Richmond.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence T. Myrick, Sr. in 1996;  one daughter, Florence Myrick;  one grandson, Lawrence Myrick, III;  two brothers, Harold Richmond and Shannon Richmond, Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Gillespie and Betty Jean McFarland.

Mrs. Myrick retired as a department manager for Wal-Mart.  She was a member of the New Zion Faith Center, where she served as Mother of the Church and Senior Leader of the Daughters of Zion.  She was also a member of the Family Community Education Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Maxine Widby and husband Reverend Ernest E. Widby of Elizabethton;  two sons, Albert Myrick of Elizabethton and Reverend Lawrence T. Myrick, Jr. and wife Camellia of Kingsport;  three sisters, Pauline Neeley and Margaret Hagler, both of Elizabethton, and Hildred Davis and Husband Franklin of New Platz, New York;  two brothers, Richard Richmond and wife Fae, and George Richmond and wife Joyce, all of Elizabethton;  ten grandchildren, thirteen grand grandchildren;  three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Carrie Bernice Myrick will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2015 in the Chapel of Peace at the Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Reverend Ernest Widby, Reverence Lawrence T. Myrick, Reverend Rick Nobletown, and Reverend Joseph Hollifield, officiating.  Music will be under the direction of Shelley Briscoe and the New Zion Faith Center Choir and Kavodda Myrick.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Saturday.  Friends may also call at her residence, 831 Watauga Avenue, Elizabethton, or at the residence of her sister Pauline Neeley at other times.

The graveside service will follow at the Happy Valley Memorial Park.  Active pallbearers will be Richard Briscoe, Jamie Myrick, Drako Myrick, Jay Scurry, Dillard Richmond, Jim Richmond, Jeff Richmond and Harold Myrick.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the New Zion Faith Center and the Daughters of Zion.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to a special sister, Pauline Neeley, a special brother, George Richmond and a special nephew, Nathaniel Watson, who all provided special care to Bernice during her illness.

Barbara Ann Taylor Hodge

Mrs. Barbara Ann Taylor Hodge, 82, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 14, 2015.


Mrs. Hodge was born in Statesville, NC. She graduated from Douglass High School, Kingsport in 1952. She was an entrepreneur, caregiver, and had a heart for raising children. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and when moving to Knoxville, TN she was under the Watchcare of Freedom Fellowship Christian Church. 

Mrs. Hodge was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford Hodge, Sr.; parents, Gladys Marie Edwards and Step-father Kemp Edwards; sister, Edith Beatty; grandchildren, Joshua Harold and Jeremiah Foster.

She leaves to mourn her children, Jimmy Foster (Polly), Sanford Hodge, Jr., Mary Cornelius, Gloria Hodge and Harmony Damita Mason; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Central Baptist Church 301 Carver St. Kingsport, TN 37660 or anytime at the home of her niece Tiffany Butts, 1540 Carolina Ave, Kingsport.

A Funeral Service will follow with Pastor Derrick Wakefield, officiating.


Pallbearers are Sanford Hodge, Jr, Jimmy Foster, Cedric Hodge, Kennan Mason, Rayquon Woodbury and Carl Hyson. 

The Graveside Service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 3:00PM in the Meditation Garden at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Paul Fredrick Hammonds

BOWDON, Ga. — Paul Fredrick Hammonds of Bowdon, Ga., passed away Saturday (Feb. 7, 2015) at his home.

He was born Feb. 17, 1943, in St. Charles, Va., son of Eva Mary Hamblin Hammonds and the late John Earl Hammonds. He graduated from Bland High School in Big Stone Gap, Va., and received a degree from Morristown College, Morristown, Tenn. He proudly served and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and later worked for Watkins Motor Lines and store management at the Kroger Company.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Carlos Hammonds; and a brother, Don Carlos Hammonds.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Cathy M. Hammonds of Bowdon, Ga.; his mother, Eva Mary Hammonds; sons, Jeffery Hammonds and Tim (Denise) Hammonds, both of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Katina (Sedrick) Wiggins of Carrollton, Ga., Eva Hammonds of Bowdon, Ga., and Katie (Nick) Jones of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sons, Paul Hammonds of Kennesaw, Ga., and Sean McCrae of Orlando, Fla.; mother-in-law, Velma Allen of Camphill, Ala.; brothers, Wesley (Charnita) Hammonds and Adrian Hammonds, both of Johnson City, Tenn.; uncle, Clarence Hammonds; nephews, Westin Hammonds of Johnson City, Tenn., and Jeffery Williams of Detroit, Mich.; niece, Doneta Lake of Detroit, Mich. great-nephews, Marcel Lake and Deon Williams of Detroit, Mich.; great-nieces, Micah Lake and Morgan Lake, both of Detroit, Mich.; brothersin-law, Robert (Mary) Williams of Bowdon, Ga., Mark (Hattie) Allen of Dadeville, Ala., Velpo Allen of Nashville, Tenn., George Allen of Valley, Ala., and Danny Allen of Columbus, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Sandra Holloway of Valley, Ala., and Jackie (Bobby) Holloway of LaFayette, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Adiaha, Katilyn, Tyson, Madison, Amber, Lyric and Sydney; one great-grandson, Andrew; and his loving Pennington Gap family.


Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Brother Robert Williams, Brother Mark Allen and Brother LeRoy Holley officiating. Pallbearers will be Nick Jones, Sedrick Wiggins, Westin Hammonds, Marcus Jackson, Ronnie Houston, James Heard and Mark Murdock.

Graveside service will be held Monday (Feb. 16, 2015) at 9 a.m. in Mountain Home National Cemetery at 53 Memorial Ave., Johnson City, Tenn. 37604.
