Elizabeth Diane Riddick

 

Another Angel has been lifted from us to start a new life.

Elizabeth Diane Riddick, also known as Betty Hill, was given a new body and a new life on February 11, 2016.


Elizabeth was born on January 28, 1949, in Washington County, TN. She was the daughter of the late Mary Freeman and Douglas Owens. She devoted her life to helping people, taking care of her family, and of course cooking. She also enjoyed working in the yard planting flowers. Elizabeth was our “Super Woman”, and left an impact on anyone that she met.

She is preceded in death by her son, Brian Hill; sisters, Shelia DeLaney and Teresa Rhea.

She is survived by her children, Vincent “Dewayne” Hill (Christy), Jonesborough, Sherita “Renee” Riddick (Tawana), James Riddick (Andrea) and Tanisha Riddick (LaRue), all of Johnson City; two brothers, Thomas Fields and James Fields, both of Johnson City; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Linda Ferguson.

The family will be receiving family and friends at 507 Robinson Drive in Johnson City.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday February 20, 2016 at the Birchette Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm prior to the services.

Nora John Collins

Nora John Collins was called home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2016, at the Mountain Home VA Center in Johnson City, TN.

John Collins was born on November 2, 1922 in Talula, Mississippi to Dave and Irene Collins.  He was next to the youngest of 8 siblings.  In his early years, John served in the United States Navy from 1941 to 1945.  John worked on the family farm until he relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He married Susan Johnson there in 1947, and from this union, 4 children were born:  Sharron, Nora Jean, Linda and Michael.   John started off in the farming industry for 9 years.  For over 50 years, John was the master chef for the John McSorley family of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  His other accomplishments were being a contractor until he retired.  John Collins started off as a junior deacon at the tender age of 17.  He faithfully served as Deacon John Collins in this ministry of Christian faith.  He has served in well over six Baptist churches, with his final deaconship at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Johnson City, TN.  Deacon Collins has mentored more than 36 deacons in his lifetime.  Deacon Collins served the Lord continuously with his reprect, wisdowm and Love of God and the fellowhip of believers in his heart.  Deacon Collinss was preceded in death by his wife Susan Collins and daughter Nora Jean Collins.  Deacon Collins is survived by devoted daughter Sharron, Linda Holland and Michael Collins, along with 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Birchette Mortuary Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the chapel, prior to the services.  Burial will follow at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City, TN.

App David Charles, Jr.


Rogersville, TN - App David Charles, Jr., age 76, of Rogersville, passed away on Tuesday morning, February 2, 2016 at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Charles graduated from Swift High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He retired from Holston Defense Corporation in 1994 after thirty-two years of service.  After many years of retirement, he worked with the Rogersville Parks and Recreation Department and most recently served as the night manager of the walking track at the Rogersville City School.

Mr. Charles had a passion for farming and helping others.  He accepted Christ at an early age at the Lyons Hill AME Church in Surgoinsville, TN and later attended the Hasson Street Christian Church in Rogersville where he was a member of the All Brothers in Christ (ABC) organization.

He was preceded in death by his parents, App, Sr. and Mary Charles.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Patricia Snapp Charles, his daughter Renee Charles Leeper; his son App D. (Chuck) Charles III; three sisters, Jessie Price of Rogersville, Roberta (Leroy) Butler of Silver Shrimp, MD, and Thelma Lyons of Rogersville; one aunt, Bessie Fulkerson; son-in-law Reggie Leeper; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hawkins County 911 Emergency Services and the emergency room staff at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Christian Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville, TN.  The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor C. Roy Charles officiating.

Gravesite services will follow at the Mitchell Crest Cemetery with the Hawkins County Color Guard and the Tennessee National Guard providing military honors.
