Calvin W. Stafford, Sr.
Calvin Wallace Stafford, Sr., 49, of Chattanooga passed away on August 24, 2011 at a hospital in Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mack A. Stafford of Kingsport; maternal grandparents, Samuel and Frances B. Hairston; paternal grandparents, Foster and Katherine L. Stafford of Rotherwood Heights (Kingsport); brothers, Samuel and Kenneth Hairston.
He is survived by his sons, Courtney S. and Calvin W. Stafford, Jr.; daughter, Ja’Nay L. Stafford; grandchild, Jaida Stafford; mother, Janie L. McClintock; step-father, William M. McCleskey, Jr.; brothers, Alvin G. Stafford, Jesse Grimes, William McCleskey, III; sisters, Maccine Stafford, Deloris (Darrell) Ransom and Pamela Davis; soul-mate, Angie Leslie.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 1 PM in the chapel of the John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, Chattanooga with Pastor Tommy Joe McCleskey officiating. Interment – Highland Cemetery, Chattanooga..
The body will lie in state from 12 Noon – 1 PM Sunday at the funeral home, 423-622-9995.

Mrs. Sylvia S. Hutchinson
BIG STONE GAP, Va. —Mrs. Sylvia Simpson Hutchinson, 77, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, departed this mortal life for her heavenly home in the wee hours of Friday, (Aug. 5, 2011), at her home.
The majority of her life was spent as a resident of Big Stone Gap, and she was a professional teacher. She earned her Bachelors’ degree from Knoxville College where she was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and her Masters’ degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She retired from Wise County Public Schools after 34 years of devoting her life and skills to children.
She was a life-long, devoted member of Mount Hermon Presbyterian Church where she worked in the Missionary Society and served as Elder and choir member. She was a troop leader of Girl Scout Lone Troop Number 1, the first Girl Scout Troop in Big Stone Gap. She was also a member of the Wise County Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, and the National Education Association.
Sylvia was an excellent homemaker and care-giver to her father-in-law, her mother, and two of her aunts.
Mrs. Hutchinson, the daughter of the late John Steward Simpson, Jr., and Florence Morris Simpson, is survived by her husband of 49 years, Edward R. Hutchinson, Sr; two daughters, Karen H. Sanders of Montgomery, Ala., and Kim R. Harkness and husband, Mark of Acworth, Ga.; two sons, Edward R. Hutchinson, Jr., and wife, Lana of Kingsport, and Christopher S. Hutchinson and wife, April Dawn of Big Stone Gap, Va.; twelve grandchildren, Kanika Hutchinson, Keith Hutchinson, Kia Sanders, Mark Harkness II, Kayla Harkness, Derek Harkness, Martika Kyte (Josh), Edward Hutchinson III, Sierra Hutchinson, Skylar Hutchinson, Savannah Hutchinson and Rachel Thompson; two step grandchildren, J. C. Oaks (Heather) and Charlie Oaks; two great-grandchildren, Christian Oaks and Christian Glenn; a host of cousins and in-laws; and a multitude of friends.
The family will receive visitors and friends on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 pm at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N) in Big Stone Gap.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Anthony Barnette officiating
Interment will follow the service at Oakview Cemetery.

Jarrett Allen Hughes
KINGSPORT — Mr. Jarrett Allen Hughes, 24, departed this life Wednesday (Aug. 3, 2011. Mr. Hughes was a lifelong resident of Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Mr. Eugene Brice; uncle, Mr. Toby Garrett; niece, Ms. Amira Russell; cousins, Mr. Christopher Brice and Ms. Tyonna “Flowers” Brice.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Charlotte (Eddie) Erwin, Kingsport; father, Daryl Hughes Sr.; brothers, Tylee (Erica) Henry, Daryl (Kayla) Hughes and Sentel (Ashlee) Brice, all of Kingsport; sister, Monique Henry, Kingsport.
Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service Saturday at Powerful New Life Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Hughes will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church with Elder Hugh Hale officiating.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
Mr. Hale and family are in the care of Clark Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service Inc. (423) 245-4971.
