Mrs. Jennie Ruth Hughes

Mrs. Jennie R. Hughes, 1026 Dale St., departed this life Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Brookhaven Manor.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of Central Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hughes will be conducted from Central Baptist Church, Thursday, December 17, 2015, at 3:30pm with Pastor Percy Stuckey, officiating. The family will receive friends from from 2:30pm until the hour of service. Interment will be at 11:00am on Friday, December 18, 2015, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, TN.

Alfred Greenlee



Alfred Greenlee, 88, has joined God’s choir of angels. He passed at home surrounded by family and friends after a long illness.

Alfred was a Deacon at Bethel Christian Church in Jonesborough, TN. Alfred retired as a superintendent of the Jonesborough
Water Department in 1989 and continued to serve his community in many ways. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Perry.

To mourn his passing, he has four daughters, JoAnn Fitzgerald of Jonesborough, Gwendolyn Quinn of Shalimar, FL, Karan Gilispie (Noah) of Jonesborough, and Marilyn Bowers of Morristown; five sons, Harold Stevenson of Jonesborough, Herbert Stevenson (Diane) of Florissant, MO, Starlin Perry of Jonesborough, William Alfred Greenlee (Sandra)of Huntsville, AL, and James Walter Greenlee (Lamonica) of Deatsville, AL., 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Alfred Greenlee to Bethel Christian Church’s Men’s and Women’s Fellowship, 701 Depot Street, Jonesborough, TN 37659.

Obituary for Brenda Sue Rogers

Brenda Sue Rogers, 66,of Rogersville fell asleep and is awaiting the return of Jesus Christ on Thursday (11/5/15) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. 

She was a faithful follower of The Way Ministry. She was a founding member of the Shades of Nefertiti, a not for profit civic service group. She was a retiree of Baldor Dodge Reliance where she worked for 30 plus years. 

Brenda was an active member in the Rogersville community and was well thought of by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Rogers Sr. and Ada Rogers; and brother, Archie Rogers Jr.


She is survived by her sons, Kevin Rogers of Atlanta, and Marcus Rogers of Rogersville; her grandchildren, Kaden and Kaitlyn Rogers of Atlanta; sisters, Claudia Horton and Diana Rogers of Atlanta, Edna, and Georgia Rogers of Rogersville, and Hazel (Michael) Nordman of Wisconsin, brother, Fred (Charlotte) Rogers of Morristown; and host of nieces and nephews.


The family will receive friends Sunday (11/8/15) from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at Christian-Sells Funeral Home, Rogersville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm with Rev. Stephen Roberts officiating.


Burial will follow at Mitchell Crest Cemetery.

Haynes E. Norris

Haynes E. Norris, 63, passed on December 6, 2015. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.

He was a 1970 graduate of Science Hill High School where he was a member of the football, baseball and basketball teams and a record setter for the track team. 

He attended ETSU where he also ran track and graduated with a degree in
Business. He was an avid sports fan. He was a charter member and the first Basileus of the Theta Zeta Chapter of the Omega Psi Phifraternity at ETSU. 

He was employed by United Telephone System in the Human Resource Department until the late 1980’s. 

He moved to Murfreesboro and was employed at RGIS there. He retired in Johnson City.
 
At an early age, he was baptized at Thankful Baptist Church, Johnson City. He was a faithful worker there in the Sunday School and was a member of the youth choir.
 
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, The Rev E. W. and Gracie Norris and George and Viola Haynes. 

He leaves to remember him, his children, Angela Barkley, Columbus, OH, Ashleigh (Tekai) Norris-Shu and Jason Norris, Bristol , TN; his parents, Willie E and Thelma Norris of Johnson City, Tn.; one brother, Thomas A. (Kimberly ) Norris, Bristol, TN and one sister, Jackie (Fred) Fields, Murfreesboro, TN, four grandchildren, Jordan Barkley, Amya Norris, Grace Ann Shu and
Jalen Norris. He had four nieces, three nephews, eight great nieces and nephews and one great great nephew along with a host of other relatives. He also had and loved his two stepchildren and four step-grandchildren and one step great grandson.
 
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 between 11AM and 12PM with the funeral following at 12 PM at Thankful Baptist Church, 1501 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, TN.
