KINGDSPORT — James E. Beatty, 82, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, (Sept.8, 2011) at Brookhaven Manor, Kingsport.
Mr. Beatty was born in Hazard, Ky. and had lived in Kingsport since 1958. He served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict and was retired from Turner Paving Company. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edith K. Taylor Beatty in 2009; his parents, Marzell and Mary Lucille Henry Beatty; nine sisters and nine brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Beatty Butts and husband, Mark of Kingsport; son, Wesley Austin of Johnson City; grandchildren, Nyashia Grady, Aushiatyyonna Grady, Fredrica Grady, Markita Rodgers and Koda Wesley Austin Jr; three sisters, Minister Grace Sanford of Hampton Va., Revella Combs and husband, Pete of Hazard, Ky., Virginia Hill and husband, Billy of Kingsport; three brothers, Rev. Calvin Beatty of Kingsport, Robert Beatty of Kingsport, Jerry Beatty of Kansas City, Mo.; special sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Hodge; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 712 E. Sevier Avenue, Kingsport.
A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Calvert, Rev. Eric Lockett and Rev. Phil Goins officiating.
Music will be provided by the church choir.
Military graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport conducted by the American Legion Post # 3 and Post #265 with Tennessee National Guard.
Pallbearers will be the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mr. & Mrs. James Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. Jack and Betsy Ann Pierce; the Kingsport Fire and Rescue Department; Dr. David Ginn and the Staff of Brookhaven Manor.
