Lonnie Leroy Cox



KINGSPORT — Mr. Lonnie Leroy Cox, departed this world March 25, 2013 . Except for a period of time spent in Newport News, Va., he was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. 
 
   He was a member of the Improved Benevolent & Protective order of the Elks of the World, Clinch Mountain Lodge of Kingsport.

   He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Odell Cox; mother, Addie Bell Rhea; sister Linda Rutledge Ewing; brothers William Robert Sanford and Wesley Archer; a son Darryl A Cox.

   He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Kevin Odell Cox and Lionel Angelo Cox (Helen); step-daughter, Rosyln Graves Hutcherson (Aaron); four stepsons, Alfred O. Johnson (Sonya) Jerome A. Johnson (Jacky) and Larry E. Johnson (Adrienne) Anthony Graves (Melissa); 33 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; a special friend Victoria Butts, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. 

 
   A memorial homegoing service will be held at Central Baptist Church on Saturday at 2 p.m.

   Professional services and care of Mr. Lonnie L. Cox and family are entrusted to Clark Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service Inc., 802-806 E. Sevier Ave., Kingsport, Tenn. (245-4971).

Lula Mae "Snook" Garrett

Lula Mae (Snook) Garrett was born Jan. 9, 1920 in Knoxville to the late Tom and Mamie Cox Eckels.

She departed this life on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at her home.


She married Elmer Pierce Garrett, and to this union, two sons were born.

Lula’s parents, husband and son, Toby, all preceded her in death.
The family resided in Kingsport for several years, and Lula was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Pierce (Deane) Garrett; grandsons, Perry Garrett and Josh Hoard; great-grandson, Devin and others; special friend, Maxine Long.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at Dockery Funeral Home with the Rev. Donny Wade and the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating.
The family is grateful for Amedisys Hospice, and special thanks is given to Christy and Tracey, the special nurses.

Steven R. Williams

   
HOUSTON, Texas —Steven R. Williams, 63, died Friday evening at his home in Houston, Texas.

Born and raised in Kingsport, Steven resided in Houston for more than 25 years where he worked and retired from the Houston Chronicle. Steven was also a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Magnolia Williams; two brothers, James and Michael, and a sister, Diane (Sissy) Hale. 

 
Surviving are his wife, Almita Williams, Houston; two sons, Marcus and Steven Jr., both of Houston;  three daughters, Kenita Miller, Felicia Thomas 
and Stephanie White, all of Houston; two sisters, Shelia Johnson and Patricia Skaggs, both of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Valeria Williams, Kingsport; brother-in-law, Carl Hale, Kingsport; several grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Steven’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered on the ocean.

Carnes Funeral Home, South Houston, Texas, served the Williams family.
