Tiara Charde Johnson

  “Yea, though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.”


   GATE CITY, Va. — On the afternoon of May 12, 2013, Miss Tiara Charde Johnson, of Gate City, Va., entered into her rest at the Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn.

   Tiara was born in Lee County, N.C., in 1991. Tiara was 21 years of age, and would have celebrated her 22nd birthday this month of May 22nd.

   Tiara was born the daughter of Stephanie Torres and the granddaughter of Mr. Herman Spriggs and the late Fannie Lynn Spriggs (August 2011 ). Tiara was raised by her maternal grandparents.

   She attended Hale’s Chapel United Methodist Church and Moccasin Street Church of Christ, Gate City, Va. with her family. She was a graduate of Gate City High School, where she was an avid track runner.  She attended Mountain Empire Community College.

Tiara loved the beauty of the world, she was always looking for the next beauty in God’s world to love. Tiara was taught to love and be loved by those who raised her, as they cared and gave true love. Tiara will be remembered as outgoing, friendly, generous and full of life. She never met or knew a stranger. Just as her grandmother though of her name, was a crown of jewels to her and others. “Tiara, a small girl with a big heart.” 
 
   Tiara is survived by a large and loving family, her mother, Stephanie Torres of Terre Haute, Ind.; great aunt and uncle, Mary A. (William ) Gamble, Kingsport,
  Tenn.; great-great aunt, Barbara Johnson, Gate City, Va.; aunts, Kim Owens, Sanford, N.C., Markita Ford, Charlotte, N.C., Yolanda Mack, Sheritta Spriggs, both of Kingsport, Tenn. and Tanisha Spriggs of Maryland; uncles and aunts-in-law, Tony Johnson, Sullivan Gardens, Robert Dion Spriggs, Jerome (Joy) Spriggs Spartanburg, S.C. and Herman (Tanya) Spriggs, Jr., Harker Heights, Texas. Tiara has many special cousins, along with numerous step-family members.

   We rejoice and thank God for Tiara’s life with us. Our family wishes to thank all those who made a difference in Tiara’s life and for whatever comfort you have given her and now us. 

    The family will receive Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home Weber City, Va.

   A celebration of Tiara’s life will follow immediately at 2 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Rochelle D. Maxwell and the Rev. James Whiteside officiating.

   Graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery Weber City, Va.

   Family and friends are welcome to a celebration of life reception at the Ebeneezer Baptist Church on Maple Street, Kingsport, Tenn., immediately after the interment.

   Pallbearers will be Stan Rogers, Leland Williams, David Wolfe, Wallace Ross, Jr., Ron Cope, and Gordon Wood. Honorary pallbearers are Oscar Simpson, William Gamble, Troy Anderson, Joe Anderson, Nicky Anderson, Bob Payne.

Mrs. Thelma Blevins Whitfield

   BRISTOL, Va. — Mrs. Thelma Blevins Whitfield, 66, 725 Russell St. Bristol, Va. departed this life May 4, 2013 at Wellmont Hospice House Bristol, Tenn.

  Mrs. Whitfield was born May 24, 1946 spending her entire life in Bristol, Va. She was a graduate of Douglass High School, Bristol,Va. She was employed at Raytheon plant for several years and employed with the Bristol Va. Sheriffs Department for 15 plus years. She was a member of the House Hold of Faith Community Church, Bristol, Va.

   She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Whitfield; parents, John and Annette Blevins, Larry Blevins; a special niece, Angie Blevins.
 
   Survivors include her sister Mrs. Cookie Harris, Kingsport; half brother, Morris (Nokie) Stewart Bristol, Va.; foster sister Ms. Peggy Harrison, Winston-Salem.

   Homegoing service will be conducted Friday at noon from  the Household of Faith Community Church with Pastor Jacqueline Nophlin officiating.

   The family will receive friends from 11a.m. until the hour of service.

   Burial will follow at the VA national Cemetery, Mountain Home Tenn.
