KINGSPORT — Mr. James Calvin Skaggs, 58, departed this life on Wednesday, (July 17, 2013), at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
Mr. Skaggs was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Central Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be conducted from the VA National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn. on Friday at 1 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:45 at Clark Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service, Inc.
Military rites by D.A.V. Chapter 40.

Hugh Hodges
KINGSPORT — Hugh Hodges, 85, 1036 Lake Street, Kingsport, departed this life at 6:18 a.m. Sunday (July 14, 2013) at Wexford House after a brief illness.
Mr. Hodges was a native of Newberry, S.C. He moved to Kingsport at an early age. He was employed at Tennessee Eastman Co., retiring in 1987 after 36 years of service.
Mr. Hodges was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Mrs. Vina Hodges; wife, Mrs. Frances Hodges; four sisters; and five brothers.
Surviving are a son, William Lewis (Sylvia) Bond, Gardenia Calif.; grandson Todd Bond, Atlanta, Ga; granddaughter, Mrs. Veronica (Derrell) Bradley, Long Beach, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Ms. Avynn Bradley, Long Beach; great-grandson, Evan Bradley; nephew/caregiver, Willie (Jeannie) Hodges; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Hugh Hodges will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Central Baptist Church with Pastor Ricardo Dorcean officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.

Anthony Wayne Wood
KINGSPORT — Anthony Wayne Wood departed this life on July 5, 2013. He was 53 years old.
Anthony worked at Big Lots for the last few years and was friendly to many who passed through. He was a person who enjoyed talking to people about “any and everything.” When his nieces were little they called him “Uncle or Uncum” and that nickname has continued through the years with family members.
He leaves behind his sister Mrs. Jackie Ross (Rollen); one nephew, Jonathan Ross; two nieces, Mrs. Lynette Reese (James) and Ms. Renee Daniels; a special Aunt Mrs. Mary Carpenter; and many special cousins, great and great-great nieces and nephews and many friends.
We’ll miss you Anthony! Rest in Peace!

Justin Tyler Machen
JOHNSON CITY — Justin Tyler Machen departed this life of Friday (June 28, 2013) after a brief illness. Justin was born in Kingsport, Tenn. on July 10, 1993.
The family will receive friends at the Birchette Mortuary Chapel on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.; a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.
