Wayne Lee Ford


KINGSPORT - Wayne Lee Ford, 59, of Kingsport, went to meet Jesus early Tuesday morning (March 22, 2016).




He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. Wayne was a provider to his family for many years and was truly devoted to his profession. He loved to spend time with his family, friends, coworkers, and especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Virginia Ford; paternal grandfather, Ernest Ford, Sr.; his maternal grandmother, Zenia Logan; maternal grandfather, Avery Logan.

Wayne Lee Ford is survived by his mother, Annie Ford; siblings, Ernest A. Ford and wife, Marilyn, Charlotte Ford Chopin and husband, Cello, James M. Ford, Robert S. Ford, and Pamela K. Ford; nephews, Mark A. Ford and Logan Ford Young; his loving soulmate, Susan A. Robinson-Ford; his daughters, Deneatrice M. Kincaid and husband, Aaron, Sherree A. Robinson, Kristy Robinson-Anderson and husband, David along with four grandchildren.

A special thank-you goes out to his co-workers and a best friend, Dwight Goode.

A gathering of friends will be held on Saturday (March 26, 2016) from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport or friends may also call anytime at the residence.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday (March 26, 2016) at 12:30 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joseph Comage, officiating. A eulogy will be provided by Beverly Williams Leeper.

A graveside service will follow the funeral service on Saturday (March 26, 2016) at Ford Family Cemetery.

Claudine Alberta Watterson Young

Claudine Alberta Watterson Young, daughter of Nancy Davis Hoard and Herman "Bus" Watterson, born June 2,1933 in Kingsport TN, departed this life on March 17,2016.


She was preceded in death by her parents and step parents, Virginia Watterson and Eldridge "Bus" Hoard; her husband Clyde Lamont "Monty" Young and one son Dana Durell Young.

She was a graduate of Douglass High School in Kingsport,TN.

Claudine was also a licensed beautician and attended Tennessee A & I State University (Tennessee State) in Nashville. She was employed at North Electric for many years and retired from the Veterans Administration in Johnson City.

She had also been a member of the Thankful Baptist Church for many years.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories one daughter Terry Monette Young Bradley (Michael), two sons Byron Anthony Young and Curtis Edmond Young all of Johnson City,TN. one uncle Richard Watterson (Barbara) also of Johnson City: grandchildren, Trey Bradley, Corey Young, Chabrelle Young, Candice Young, Brett Young and Logan Young and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday March 22, 2016 at Thankful Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN.

The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm prior to the Services.

Johnnie L. Weaver



ELIZABETHTON - Johnnie L. Weaver, age 70, 812 West H. Street, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, from Hillview Healthcare Center, following an extended illness.


Johnnie was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late John F. Young and Idella Gardner Young.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Young, Robert Young and Leon Young.

Johnnie retired after 26 years of service as an LPN and had worked at both Carter County Memorial Hospital and Sycamore Shoals Hospital as an ICU Nurse. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and loved going to church. She enjoyed crocheting, being with family and taking care of her family and she was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Those left to cherish her memory include three children, Kenneth Young, John Young and Angela Blair and husband Kerry, all of Elizabethton; one brother, Sylvester Young, of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Ashley N. Young, Melanie P. Young, and Jordan T. Young, all of Elizabethton; three step grandchildren, Ashley Shaffer and husband Jeremy, Kristina Smidt and Shannon Smidt, all of Bristol; two great grandchildren, Tavian M. Norwood and Ka'Leah M. Young; and six step great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive, along with her special sisters, Alfrieda Forney, of Harriman, TN and Delores Richmond, of Saginaw, Michigan.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Johnnie L. Weaver will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 20, 2016, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Ernest Widby, Rev. Estel Williams, and Rev. Mike Berry, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Alfrieda Forney and Odessa Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday, or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Gardner's Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Hillview Healthcare Center and Avalon Hospice for the love and care shown to Johnnie during her illness.

James Robert Vaughan

James Robert Vaughan of Johnson City, entered into rest on Saturday March 12, 2016.
James loved his family deeply and enjoyed every moment with grandchildren. He was employed by Birchette Mortuary and a graduate of Science Hill High School in Johnson City.
 
James was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Vaughan, mother Verna Vaughan, sister Verna Lee Vaughan, and his brother Ronnie Vaughan. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Mary Katherine Vaughan and second wife Sherry Vaughan.

James is survived by his daughter Shantelle Suits (Rick), son Joe Rosenbaum(Cassidy), sister Sarah Ann Birchette (Fletcher), brother Michael Vaughan. Grandchildren, Breanna, Hannah, Haylee, and Kaylee Suits all of Johnson City. And Great-Granddaughter Autumn Suits. Nephews John F. Birchette, IV, and Mose White. Great-Nephews, Caleb Keith Duncan, Noah Charles Duncan, Lucas Duncan, Christopher James Deck, and Michael Joseph Deck. Nieces Michelle Duncan, April Deck (Christopher) and Shaunice Vaughan. Great-Nieces, Nya Lee Deck, Faith Michelle Deck, and Mary Katherine Deck. Sister in-law Estelle Vaughan. Numerous loving cousins and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00pm on Friday March 18, 2016 at the Birchette Mortuary Chapel.
 
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at the chapel prior to the services.

Theophilus Robinette


Theophilus Reginald Robinette, 62, Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Scott County, VA on November 23, 1953 to the late Cadle W. Robinette and Maggie Dell Wood.

Theo went on to graduate from Gate city High School in 1972, where he lettered in chorus. He later attended Virginia Highlands Community College majoring in Accounting where he also sang in the traveling choir. After graduating from a 6 year apprenticeship to be an Industrial Mechanic, he went on to have career of over 35 years with Eastman Chemical Company and retired in November 2012.

Theo was a devoted member of the Manville Road Church of Christ in Gate city, VA. He was passionate about his “fury kids” as he referred to them, CoCo, Pepper, and Savannah, and loved his family and friends dearly. He was the kind of person to always be there for a friend or family member in need. He will be greatly missed and his memory will live in our hearts forever.

In addition to his parents, his sisters Kathleen Hensley, Almedia Robinette and Wanda Estell preceded him in death.

He is survived by his brothers Norbert Robinette, Ashland, VA and Offyette Robinette, Gate City, VA; sisters, Freda Thomas, Phoenix, AZ, Blenda Brown, Denver, CO, Patricia “Pinkie” Anderson, Gate City, VA, and Sheridan Robinette, Kingsport, TN, Lizzie Mae Mitchell, San Bernardino Valley, CA; along with many nieces and nephews to whom he treated as if they were his own children, a host of cousins and extended family and many special friends including Michael Hale, David Wolfe, and Marlene Davis.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Mark Harbison officiating. Janice Wolfe Sharpe and Jennifer Davis will provide the music.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Justin Robinette, Gregorio Lopez Castro, Michael Hale, Willie Hughes and Ricky Shoemaker will serve as pallbearers. David Wolfe, Pete Shoemaker, George Wolfe and Charles Wood will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the Graveside.

Alfred Smith Hale

Alfred Smith Hale of Rogersville, TN died Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Holston Manor Nursing Home in Kingsport, where he had resided for the past six months.


Alfred, who was born July 2, 1928 in Whitesburg, TN to Clarence and Anna (Taylor) Hale, lived most of his life in the Rogersville community.  He retired from the City of Rogersville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James Hale, sisters Molly (Hale) Young, Clara (Hale) Etter, Grace Hale, and special friend Shirley Hale and family.

He is survived by his son Johnny (Mary Barbara) Dennis of Rogersville, daughters Cheryl (Rommie) Argo and Dorothy (Harvey) Wilmer both of Kingsport, nephews Anthony Etter and Hugh Allen (Lori Ann) Hale of Rogersville, nieces Barbara Jean Hale of Rogersville, Mary (Hale) Fain of Kingsport.  Alfred also had a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who reside in Kingsport, TN, Johnson City, TN and Asheville, NC, and a host of extended family.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 16, 2016 at the Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roy Charles and Rev. Hugh Allen Hale officiating.  Graveside services will follow at the Mitchell Crest Cemetery.

Mrs. Bertha Ada Collie

COLLIE, Mrs. Bertha Ada took her celestial flight Tuesday afternoon, February 23, 2016 at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN at the age of 91 years.

She was born October 14, 1924 in Andrews, N. C. to the late Henry and Elva McAdams. Bertha accepted Christ at an early age becoming a member of the Holiness Church. 

She was united in holy matrimony to Melvin Collie Sr. on April 8, 1946 and to this union seven children were born: Frederick (Teddy), Phillip (Dean), Berthanna (Bert), Hugh (Benny), Joseph (Joey), Solomon (Ricky) and Darlene (Dolly). 

Mrs. Collie worked as a childcare provider and formerly worked for Dayton Public Schools Nutrition Services. She ran the Gleaning Program of Montgomery County and the Food Pantry Program for First Thessalonian MBC. She was a former member of Isle of Patmos Church; later joining her husband at First Thessalonian MBC where she served faithfully. 

Bertha is preceded to Heaven by her parents; sister and brothers-in-law, Ruby (Rev. Morris) Bowman and Forrest Henderson; (2) brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy (Nadine) McAdams and Robert (Margie) McAdams. 

She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving husband of 69 years of marriage, Rev. Melvin Collie, Sr.; (7) devoted children: Frederick (Saundra) Collie of Dayton, OH; Phillip (Cynthia) Collie of Washington Courthouse, OH, Berthanna (Dennis) Oxendine, Hugh Collie, Joseph CollieSolomon (Gail) Collie and Darlene (Keith) Harvey all of Johnson City, TN; (1) loving sister, Ruth Henderson of Nashville, TN.; (1) brother and sister-in-law, Hugh (Shirley) Collie of Johnson City, TN; (23) grandchildren, (31) great-grandchildren; (2) very special friends, Ruth Kilgore and Doris Ballard and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other very dear relatives and friends.
