NASHVILLE — Joyvonna Nicole Austin Morelan “Joy,” 31, of Nashville, Tenn., died Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2012) at Vanderbilt Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at Saturday,Dec. 15, 2012. Family will be receiving friends from 11 a.m. to noon. Funeral service from noon to 1 p.m. at Everlasting Life Church, 1801 Western Ave., Knoxville, Tenn 37921.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Unity Funeral Home in a Trust Fund for Joyvonna’s children.

Jeffrey Carpenter

KINGSPORT — Mr. Jeffery Carpenter , 51 departed this life Monday, (Dec. 3, 2012) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his father, Aubrey B. Carpenter.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mrs. Mary Carpenter; daughters, Ms. Anissa Carpenter, Mrs. Jennifer (Rashid) Dunn; brothers, Aubrey Jr. (Tobey) Carpenter, Ronald (Judy) Carpenter; sisters, Ms. Colleen Smith, Mrs. Angela Peters, Mrs. Donna (Raymond) Bowers, Ms. Kay Carpenter; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the VA National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn. with Pastor Ricardo Dorcean officiating.

The processional will leave the funeral home at noon.

Grace Lee

Grace Jane "Jackie" Lee, 87 years of age, of Arnold Road, Greeneville, formerly of Kingsport, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Grace was born April 29, 1925, in Greene County and lived in Midway with her parents, Talmadge Snoddy and Clara Mae Moody.

Grace graduated in 1948 from George Clem School in Greeneville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Robert Lee; three infant sons; one son: William Archie Lee; one grandson: William Anthony Fields Lee; and four sisters: Lillian Cannon, Mary Alice Grissom, Rosetta Marie Gualette, and Nannie Kate Lee.

Grace lived in Kingsport until 1970. She moved her children to Greeneville, where she worked as a counselor with Holston Home for Children for 10 years.

She also worked in production in a local company, as a caregiver for a number of years, and as a "grandparent" with the Foster Grandparent Program.

Grace attended Roby Fitzgerald Adult Center, where she enjoyed meeting and greeting so many wonderful people.

Her passion was always to be active in the communities where she lived and loved participating in well-planned organizations.

Grace's most enjoyment and passion was seeking and learning about God, his word, and letting others she encountered know what she knew about the word of God.

Grace was a member of Houston Chapel Church in Warrensburg, as well as a member of Tate Chapel United Methodist Church in Greeneville,. She was a member of Tate's UM Women's Missionary Union, and was a faithful member in good standing.

Survivors include her six children and spouses: John Robert Lee Jr. of Hollywood, Fla., Talmon Lafayette Lee of Atlanta, Ga., Martha Valerie Lee of Greeneville, Richard "Ricky" Douglass Lee of Los Angeles, Calif., James Edward (Michelle) Lee of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Carmella Renee Lee of Johnson City; 11 grandchildren and their spouses: Leeodis (Melisa) Lee of Greeneville, Kai Rosita Lee Ripley of Johnson City, Talmon Lee and James S. Lee of Kingsport, Ryesha (Roy) King and Briana Lee of Johnson City, Trey Lee and Caleb Lee of Elizabethton, and Alexis Lee of Boynton; three stepgrandchildren: Jordan, Jonathan, and Jaxson Kincaide, all of Boynton; her great-grandchildren: Cierra D. Goode of Johnson City, Jeanette Goode, Alexis Madison, and Miles Lee, all of Greeneville, and Neria Ani Metcalf, Joshua F. Luvene, and Ra'ziyah Talayah, all of Johnson City; a special niece, who was like a daughter: Ada Ruth Moultry of Kingsport; other special nieces: Velma (Arthur) Lemon and Connie Lee Roberts of Atlanta; her nephews: Andrew Gualette of Kingsport and Jimmy (Gretta) Lee of Maryland; and a special young man to Grace: Claude (Sharon) Taylor of Atlanta.

Grace's special friends, who loved her dearly, were Flora Blue, and three angels who spent time with her daily: Mary Ann Bogus, Marie Crockett, and Alice McLaughlin, all of Greeneville.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012 in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Michael Washington and the Rev. Rochelle Maxwell will officiate.

Mrs. Geraldine Westmoreland

KINGSPORT — Mrs. Geraldine Westmoreland, 945 Dale St., departed this life on Thursday (Sept. 27, 2012) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Henrietta, N.C. residing in Kingsport for the past 65 years. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Westmoreland; her mother, Ms. Ella McCurry; and father, John Bristol; brothers, George Bristol, Johnny Bristol, Lester Bristol, Azel Bristol, Edward Bristol, Dirl Bristol; sisters, Ms. Wanda Bristol, Ms. Belle Dulaney, Ms. Sarah Camp, and Ms. Pearl Royster.

Survivors include one daughter, Ms. Janet Banks; and one brother, James L. Bristol; three sisters, Ms. Elizabeth Brady, Ms. Edith Brown and Mrs. Jennie Ruth Hughes; a special sister-in-law, Mrs. Jennibelle Bristol; four grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; and nine greatgreat-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11a.m. until the hour of service.

Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday at 12 p.m. from the Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Calvert officiating.

Nellie Swafford

KINGSPORT — Nellie Dovie Robinson Swafford, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Friday, (Aug. 24, 2012).

She was born in Meigs County, Tenn., but had lived in Kingsport most of her life where she raised her children. She was the matriarch of the family. Nellie was Valedictorian of her high school class.

Nellie was an active member of Mt. Zion Holiness Church, where she was an Elect Lady. She was a dedicated and devoted mother to all, opening her home to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Della Ray Robinson; husband, James L. Swafford; son, Xavier Timothy Hall; four sisters, Cecil Hall, Augusta Faye Johnson, Katheryn Hunter, and Flora Robinson; one brother, Elijah Robinson.

Survivors include her two daughters, Janet Horton and Kathy Swafford, both of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Tonya Horton, Anissa Carpenter, Monica Bell, Jennifer Dunn, Quejuana Horton, Rylee Billings, and Briana Hall; “special grandchildren,” T.J. and Indya Kittrell; nineteen great-grandchildren, including very special great-grandchild, Kallegha Alexander; special nieces and nephews, Tracey and Anissa Kittrell, Norma Dearmand, Donovan Hall, and C. T. Lawson; and a host of several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Holiness Church.

Funeral services will commence immediately following with Pastor Lester Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery.

Mr. Da’von A. Tarter

KINGPORT — Mr. Da’von A. Tarter, 20, 611 Lovedale St., Kingsport, departed this life on Friday (Aug. 24, 2012), at the Johnson City Medical Center from a motorcycle accident.

He was born in Nashville, but spent most of his life in Kingsport. He was a graduate of Daniel Boone High School. He was employed by Kids Expedition and Krystal’s in Johnson City. He was a loving person and well loved by the community. He especially loved children. He was a big hearted person and loved to help anyone in need. His friends lovingly say that he always had to have the last word. His little brother added that Da’von was a shoe addict.

He is preceded in death by his by his maternal grandparents, Ms. Nancy (Tarter) Dykes, Ulesses Miller; and special grandeur, James Swafford; and paternal grandparents, Eddie Erwin Sr. and Mrs. Marie Erwin, James Norman and Hope Norman.
He is survived by one daughter of Knoxville; mother, Ms. Sabrina (Tarter) Shoemaker; father, Mr. Eddie (Charlotte) Erwin Jr.: two sisters, Mrs. Nika (Phillip) Rawlings of Maryland, Miss Bianca Horton of Knoxville; and five brothers, Mr. Carlos Tarter, Mr. Harold Shoemaker, Eddie Erwin III, Cameo Erwin, and Gerald Smith; and several nieces and nephews; one aunt, Ms. Audrey Ealy; one uncle, Mark Erwin.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 5 p.m. from Powerful New Life Church with Pastor Hugh Hale officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the hour of service.

Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
