Charles Underwood Sr.
CHURCH HILL — Charles Reginald Underwood Sr., 59, went to be with his Lord on March 27, 2009, which was also his birthday.
He was married to Marilyn Cox Underwood. Through this union they were blessed with a son, Reggie Jr.
Reggie Sr. was employed at Lakeshore Mental Insitution in Knoxville as a Data Processing Supervisor for 27 years.
He was a member of Lyons Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where he served as a trustee and choir member. He was also a member of the Layman’s Men’s Chorus of Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lafayette Underwood; mother, Helen Underwood Fain; uncle, Charles R. Underwood; and grandparents.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 37 years, Marilyn; son, Reggie Jr. of Church Hill; grandchildren, Tyreke Lamar Underwood and Tia Chantel Underwood of Kingsport; sisters, Lillian (Clifford) Leeper and Sandra Wilmer, both of Church Hill, Bonney Underwood Abbott of Washington, D.C.; brother, (BL) Barney Lafayette Underwood, Washington, D.C.; aunts, Shirley (Willie) Liggett of Arlington, Va., Ethel R. Russell of Kingsport and Daisy Underwood Taylor of Pennsylvania; special mother-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Cox; and sisters and brother-in-law; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.

Mr. Archer was a member of the Baptist faith.

Ada Victoria Clark Rogers
ROGERSVILLE — Ada Victoria Clark Rogers, 83, of Rogersville, passed away, Monday (March 9, 2009) at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.
She attended Swift Memorial Junior College and was a faithful follower of The Way Ministry.
Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Rogers, Sr.; parents, James and Annie Pearl Cobb Clark; brother, James A. Clark, II.

Jessie (Phillips) Taylor
KINGSPORT — Mrs. Jessie (Phillips) Taylor, 60, 1072 Robertson St., Apt. #181, fell into everlasting sleep in the arms of God on Thursday morning (Feb. 5, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Batesville, Miss. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Cashley and Odessie Phillips. Mrs. Taylor moved to Church Hill in the spring of 1967 and soon started working to build a life for herself. She moved to Kingsport and worked several jobs.
She met and married her late husband, Mr. Terry Taylor of Elizabethton, and they raised five children together.
Left to mourn her passing are four daughters, Rhonda Williams (Carl Hale) and Sharlita Terray Taylor, of Kingsport, Keyotia Rochelle Taylor of Nashville and Keyonia Lachelle Taylor of Memphis; one son, Tyrone (Joni) Phillips of Kingsport. Also mourning her death is her four sisters, Lenora (J.W.) Smith Memphis, Ollivet (S.V.) Cox Courtland, Miss., Annie (John) Ewing Johnson City and Lucille Williams Kingsport; five brothers, Odie and Amos Phillips of Kingsport, Cashley Jr. and Lonnie Phillips of Omaha, Neb. and Namon Phillips of Pendelton, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who all loved her dearly, and we will miss her beyond what words can describe.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon till time of services Thursday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Maple Street, Kingsport and anytime at Mrs. Taylor’s residence.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the church.
Interment will be held at Washington County Memorial Garden, Johnson City.

Nelson Foster
KINGSPORT — Nelson Foster, 84, of Kingsport, and went home to be with God on Monday (Jan. 19, 2009) at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol.
He was born March 30, 1924 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., spent his youth in Nashville, and came to Kingsport in 1941 where he spent most of his life. After retiring from TVA as a truck driver, Nelson worked for Creech Radiator Service for several years. He was also a bus driver and body shop repairman.
Nelson was a member of Central Baptist Church and a member of Universal Masonic Lodge # 239 for twenty-five years.
His wife, Georgia Edna Foster, preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his lost, his son, Nelson Keith Foster of Kingsport;
granddaughters, Nicole, Keita, and Myee McKinney (her children, Keence and Dravin); other great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Leftridge of Chicago, Ill. and Dorothy Jones of Nashville; six nieces and eight nephews; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives, and friends.
