Illinoise Mitchell

BIG STONE GAP, Va. — Illinoise Tucker Mitchell, 99, entered into Heavenly rest on Tuesday (Aug. 24, 2010) at her residence.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She lived most of her life in this area.

Illinoise was retired from The Bread and Chicken House formerly located in Big Stone Gap. She was one of the original founders of the business and served as a master baker and pastry decorator until her retirement.
Other endeavors she undertook during her life were serving on The Lonesome Pine Hospital Board of Directors for 20 years, a past Director of the Big Stone Gap Aware Program, an Inspector at Trigiani Garment Factory, cafeteria manager at the former Bland High School, housekeeper of Allandale Mansion, past Worthy Matron of Harold Chapter 180 Order of the Eastern Star.
She was very active in United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, she taught Sunday school for 30 years, she was a certified lay leader for the Methodist church. She graduated from Morristown College and attended high school at Bethune-Cookman School for young women in North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. S.L. and Elizabeth Hall Tucker; sister, Bertha Long; her husband, the Rev. Albert S. Mitchell; her nephews, J.B. Long, J.C. Long; and niece, Billie Jean Grier.
She is survived by her daughter, Alberta E. Mitchell of Big Stone Gap; her grandson, Kevin Mitchell of Kingsport; three greatgrandchildren, Aaron Davidson, Amber Aliff and Sarah Aliff of Kingsport and five great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors are nieces, Valeria Long, Lanham, Md., Ruth Hardin, Knoxville, Vivian Varner and husband, Lee, of Knoxville, Tenn., Darlene Curry, Waldorf, Md., Sheila Purnell and husband, John of Cincinnati, Ohio, Patricia Dulaney of Knoxville, Tenn.; nephews, Tim Long of Knoxville Tenn., Butch Long and wife, Carol, Quentin Long, Joseph Long Jr. and Virgil Long, all of Knoxville, Tenn. As well as a host of greatnieces and nephews; and special friend and road partner, Peggy Lane.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church, East First and Wyandotte, Big Stone Gap.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Graveside services will follow in the Oak View Cemetery, Big Stone Gap. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Jessie M. Logan Gamble

KINGSPORT — Jessie M. Logan Gamble, 80, of Kingsport, departed this life peacefully at her residence on Friday (Aug. 20, 2010).


Ms. Gamble was of the Baptist faith. She was a graduate of Douglass High School. She continued her education at Swift Memorial Junior College where she received her degree. Jessie retired from the Kingsport Press.
Ms. Gamble was preceded in death by her parents, Avery and Zinnia Moore Logan; an infant son, Peter; and her sister, Mary Frances Logan.
Surviving is her daughter, Kay Gamble of the home; two sons, Mark Gamble and Tyler Logan, both of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Brandon Gamble, Jamar Hardy and Brandi Gamble; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Ford of Johnson City; two brothers, Herman Logan and Avery Logan, Jr., both of Kingsport; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her friend, Kay Hall.

Evangelist Deborah Louise Releford

KINGSPORT — Evangelist Deborah Louise Releford, 53, 412 Dunbar St., departed this life Sunday evening (Aug. 15, 2010) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.

Evangelist Releford was born in Kingsport and was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. Evangelist Releford was a member of Central Baptist Church and a member of Kingsport Ministerial Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Kate Releford; father, Bravell Franklin McClintock; sister, Bravene Lee; grandparents, Richard and Lillie Mae Releford.
Surviving are her brothers, Gary Releford, Knoxville, Tenn., Andre (Jo Ann) Releford, Blacksburg, Va., Giles B. McClintock and William H. (Twinkle) McClintock; sisters, India Releford, Ilesia Anderson and Jackie (Carl) Scott of Kingsport; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Central Baptist Church with funeral services following at noon with the Rev. Ricardo F. Dorcean officiating.
Interment will follow at Mitchell Crest Cemetery in Rogersville.

Mrs. Dorothy White

KINGSPORT — Mrs. Dorothy Edna White, 84, 1240 Riverside Ave., Kingsport, departed this life on Aug. 4, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after brief illness.
Mrs. White attended Powerful New Life Church.
Mrs. White is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Josiah White, Jr.; father, Mr. Paul Keaton; mother, Mrs. Mary Edna Keaton; two sisters, Mrs. Patricia Harris and Helen E. Keaton; three (infant) brothers; one niece, Mrs. Janice Harris.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Mr. Josiah (Felisha) White, III; one daughter, Mary Donita White; one grandchild, Jomyjiah Jo’Lesha White; one step grandchild, Cora M. Patrick; brother-in-law, Mr. Charles Harris; one sister-in-law, Miss Bernice Horton; niece, Karen (Howard) Grantham; three nephews, Mr. Larry Keaton, Mr. David Keaton and Mr. Daniel Harris; a host of other relatives and friends.

Cynthia S. Brice-Fugate and Howard Fugate

ROGERSVILLE — Cynthia S. Brice-Fugate, born Dec. 2, 1958, to the late Mary Dorothy Ewing and the late Robert Hoard Sr., departed this life with her husband of 27 years, Howard L. Fugate, Monday (Aug. 2, 2010).

Cynthia grew up in the Petersburg community and was a member of Petersburg A.M.E. Zion Church where she took pride in participating in whatever was asked of her. She loved cooking and reading. Most days you could find her working in her plants which she loved.
She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Leola and Walter Brice; sister, Karen Brice; and uncles, William Lawrence Brice and Donnie Lynn Brice Sr. Her dogs, Sir James, Tiberius, and Tilley, perished with her and Howard. Her departure is a great loss to her entire family and her church family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Pascha N. Williams (Reggie), of Carrollton, Ga., and Shandra L. Fanney (Artie), of Morristown. She also leaves to cherish her memory her greatest joys, her five grandchildren, Autumn, Reggie II, Anthony, Bria, and Adrianna; sisters, Stella Darlene and Melissa Diane Ewing, Marcella Thompson, Nettie B. Snapp and Kaye Henderson; brothers, James Leroy and Herbert Eugene Ewing, Spencer, Robert Jr. and Gary W. Hoard; aunts, Shirley Looney and Stella Pyles; uncles, Walter Edward, James Lee and Charles Brice; very special second parents, Fred Jr. and Betty Fugate; and a host of cousins and friends. ROGERSVILLE — Howard Lee Fugate, born March 5, 1958, to Fred Fugate Jr, and Betty E. Watterson Fugate, departed this life with his wife of 27 years, Cynthia S. Brice Fugate, Monday (Aug. 2, 2010).

He attended schools on military bases in Florida, Ohio, and Germany, completing his education in Surgoinsville. Howard was employed at DTR in Midway, Tenn.
Howard was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred Sr. and Louise Fugate and Clinton and Fannie Watterson.
In addition to his parents, Howard leaves to cherish his memory his stepchildren, Pascha N. Williams (Reggie), of Carrollton, Ga., and Shandra L. Fanney (Artie), of Morristown; brothers, Fred Fugate III (Beady), of Montgomery, Ala., Anthony Fugate, of Kingsport and Steven Fugate (Anna Marie), of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Autumn, Reggie II, Anthony, Bria and Adrianna; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. His departure is a great loss to his entire family.
