Jerome Pierce, Sr.

KINGSPORT — Jerome Pierce Sr., 89, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Saturday (July 24, 2010) with his family by his side.
A Kingsport native, he was the son of the late Albert Jerome Pierce and Lena Fitzgerald Pierce. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Mr. Pierce served in World War II and was a member of American Legion Post #123. He retired from the City of Kingsport and also retired as a community barber. An avid sports fan, he had a great love for baseball and was known as “Grand-Daddy” by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Pierce; sisters, Virginia, Alice, Fannie and Mae; brothers, William, Albert, Edward, Fred, Jake, Thomas and Charles.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, three daughters, Staralee (Raymond) Morris of Lithonia, Ga., the Rev. Sherry Kinchloe of the home, Aleea Tarplin, Stockbridge, Ga.; one son, Jerome (Blossom) Pierce Jr. of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Tyrome Avery, Cameron Grimes, Elizabeth “Beth” Pierce, Bernard Tarplin Jr. and Byron Pierce Tarplin; and one great-grandson, Pierce Cameron Grimes. He is also survived by brother, Jack (Betsy) Pierce, Kingsport; nephew, A.J. Strong of Connecticut; sister-inlaw, Orlean Pierce of Washington, D.C.; and a host of relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church, Kingsport.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Calvert officiating. Eulogy will be provided by Elder Charles Hawkins.
A military graveside service will follow at Pierce Family Chapel Cemetery in Horse Creek, Tenn., with the Hawkins County Color Guard conducting the rites.

Mary E. Hoskin Hampton

KINGSPORT — Mary E. Hoskin Hampton, 83, of Kingsport, went home Friday (July 16, 2010) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mary was born in Knoxville Tenn. to the late Sam Hoskin and Edith Hoskin.
She was married to the late Robert Buford Hampton and resided in Stonega, Va. Mary worked as a head start teacher for young children in Appalachia Elementary School which she enjoyed. Mary enjoyed singing. Mary was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she sung in the Mass Choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her husband, Robert Buford Hampton; brother, Bobby Hoskin; sister, Barbara Jean Squire; (daughter), Shirley Bethea; (sons), James Hampton, Buford Hampton Jr., Johnny Hampton; grandson, Donald Hampton; great-granddaughter, Mckenzie Lyons; nephew, Tony Squire; three brothers-in-law, Bobby Zanders, Eugene Dinkins and Charles Milbro; one son-in-law, Russel Watterson S r.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, (seven daughters), Ruthie Wells, Plainsfield N.J., Mary Bond, Kingsport, Doris Williams and husband, Johnny Williams, Jenkins Ky., Patricia Stover and husband, Charles Stover, Kingsport, Anita Cox and husband, Edward Cox, Church Hill, Peggy Turner and husband, Lawrence Turner, Kingsport and Brenda Watterson, Kingsport; (three sons), Robert O. Hampton and wife, Jenney Hampton, Cincinatti Ohio, Ronald Hampton and wife, Sharon Hampton, Cincinatti Ohio and William Hampton, Kingsport; (four sisters), Lucille Zanders, Ruth Hoskin, Juanita Dinkins and Wilma Milbro, all of Big Stone Gap, Va.; (brother), Samuel Hoskin Jr., Richmond Va.; 26 grandchildren; and a host of nieces nephews and great-grand children.
Visitation will be conducted on Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the church with Pastor Kenneth Calvert officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park with sons-in-law and grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Dorothy "Dot" Anderson

ANDERSON, DOROTHY ANN "DOT" - age 73, of Knoxville, TN, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Preceded in death by: parents, Samuel McClellan and Margaret Bryant; daughters, Deborah and Christy Anderson. Survivors: stepfather, Ernest Bryant; sons, John (Sharon) Anderson and Edward Anderson, of Norcross, GA; daughters, Vickie (Floyd) Oderson, of Scottsboro, AL, Angela, Marva, and Deanna Anderson; sisters, Barbara Savler, Emma Taylor, DeeDee (Frank) Horton, Judy (Jacob) Carter, Linda Kinte and Neda Williams; 20 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. Claudia Hardy Maxwell

KINGSPORT — Claudia Yvonne Hardy Maxwell, 61, of Greensboro, N.C., went to be home with her Lord on Wednesday (June 30, 2010) at Regional Cancer Center in Greensboro, N.C.

She was born in Sullivan County (Kingsport) and moved to North Carolina in 1989. She was a graduate of Douglass High School in 1961 and then attended ETSU. She retired from the State of North Carolina, Child Advocate of Guardian ad Litem.
She was a member of Recovery All Christian Temple in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her father, Luther L. Hardy; brother-in-law and sister, John and Thelma Jean Robinson; and brother, Leroy Hardy.
Survivors include her daughter, Alyria Maxwell and partner, Bruce France, of Greensboro, N.C.; four sons, Larry Maxwell Jr. and wife, Dina, of Kingsport, Courtney Webster of Kingsport, Milton Morgan of Nashville, and Jay Dennis of Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Skyy Dugger, Quintesa Snapp, Zachary Maxwell, Donte Maxwell, Samantha Bray, Natasha Newberry and Casey Newberry; five greatgrandchildren and five great-greatgrandchildren; her mother, Mildred E. Swafford Hardy of Kingsport; two brothers, John Hardy and wife, Betty, and Robert Hardy, all of Kingsport; best friend and honorary sister, Pastor Cora Hamilton; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church, 301 Carver St., Kingsport. Funeral services will follow in the church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eunice A. Woods officiating.

Mrs. Deborah Jean Davis

KINGSPORT — Mrs. Deborah Jean Davis, 58, of 201 Carver Street, departed this life Tuesday (June 8, 2010) afternoon at her residence.

Born in Kingsport to the parents of Helen C. Spears and Vance R. Campbell.
She attended Dobyns Bennett High School. Mrs. Davis was employed at OEO and Kingsport Press for 25 years.
Mrs. Davis was an active member of Central Baptist Church and a former member of Valley Street Baptist Church, Abingdon, Va. She was a member of the Elite Club, Kingsport; former member of Douglass H.S. Marching Band.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Marshall Davis; father, Mr. Vance R. Campbell; mother, Mrs. Helen C. Spears; and grandmother, Mrs. Lizzie Russell.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Tammy W. (Phillip) Campbell Adams; several steps sons; two grandchildren, NaTana H. Campbell and Zyioo V. Adams; one sister, Mrs. Joslyn Denese (Carlous) Morrison; special sisters, Vicky Smith, Patricia Stockly, Nellie Foster, Dana Skaggs, Beverly Turner; and one special daughter, Mary L. Beatty; Special life partner, Charles Walkins.
Funeral services will be conducted from Central Baptist Church 2 p.m. Monday with Pastor Ricardo F. Dorcean officiating.

Rosemary Webb

MEDIA, Pa. — Rosemary Webb, 88, Media, Pa., died June 6, 2010. She was a longtime member of St. Paul AME Zion Church. She was the daughter of the late John H. Garnett and Lois Mayo Garnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell A. Webb Sr., and two siblings and two sons-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Sylvia Mills of Chester and Olivia Swafford, Kingsport; one son, Lowell A. Webb, Hockessin, Del.; two brothers, Charles Garnett Bear, Del., and William Webb, Ridley Twp., Pa.; two sisters, Lois M. Lawson, whom she raised, of Chester, and Philomenia Peterson, Newark, Del.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul AME Zion Church, 712 Washington Ave., Media, Pa.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Interment will be Rolling Green Cemetery.

Martha A. Faulkerson

ROGERSVILLE — Martha A. Faulkerson, 88, passed away on Monday (May 31, 2010) at Wexford House after an extended illness.

She was a member of Russell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Mrs. Faulkerson was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Faulkerson.
Survivors include her daughter, Venora A. Rodgers and husband, William, of Pittsford, N.Y.; three sons, Charles Faulkerson and wife, Johnie Mae, of Erie, Pa., Allan Faulkerson and wife, Carolyn, of Kingsport, and Joe Faulkerson of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Russell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and other times at the home of Allan and Carolyn Faulkerson, 905 E. Sevier Ave., Kingsport.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Irving Greene officiating.
Burial will follow at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.
