Jack Anderson
GATE CITY, Va. — Jack Waltern Anderson, 69, Gate City, Va., passed away, Friday, (March 4, 2011) at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Jack was born in Scott County on Feb. 24, 1942, and was the son of the late Walter and Maggie Anderson.
Jack attended Weber City Church of God. He retired from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department; was a member of the Copper Creek Ruritan Club where he served on the Board of Directors; and was a lifetime member of the Scott County Lifesaving Crew.
Jack loved putting out his garden every summer, but his favorite thing to do was to ride his great-granddaughter, Olivia, around in his red wagon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe D. Anderson, June Wolfe, Mack Wolfe, and Kay Wolfe; and nephews, William “Buckwheat” Anderson, John “John-John” Wolfe, Sam Wolfe, Joe Wolfe, Tim Wolfe, and Ronnie Wolfe; niece, Breanna Lancaster; sisters-in-law, Almedia Robinette, Wanda Estill, and Kathleen Hensley; and special friends, Jip Lawson and Rudy Herron.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia “Pinkie” Anderson,

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Pinkie Anderson or the residence of Bob and Contrinia Payne.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev Raymond Hammonds and Rev. Rochelle Maxwell officiating.
Cathy Lane, Rev. Raymond Hammonds, Liz and James Woods, and Arlena Hughes will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday at the Holston View Cemetery.
Ray Carrico, J.R. Dougherty, Terry Thorpe, Billy Jo Wolfe, Ronald Cope, Stanley Rogers, George Wolfe, and John Broadwater will serve as pallbearers. John Kilgore, Buster Stacy, and members of the Scott County Lifesaving Crew will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12 noon to go in procession to the graveside service.

James Jackson
BIG STONE GAP, Va. — James “Lee Arthur” Jackson departed this life after a long illness on Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2011) at his home in Big Stone Gap, Va .
He was retired after 37 years with Westmoreland Coal Company. Fondly known by co-workers as Little Joe (later Joe – after his father), James will be remember for his dedication to his family and his spiritual walk with the Lord. Known for his singing voice and mild mannerism, he was always a motivator to and an inspiration to all who passed his w a y.
The family will receive friends at Holding Funeral Home, 17 East Third Street, Big Stone Gap, Va., Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Annie Lee Moss
KINGSPORT — Annie Lee Moss, 85, of Kingsport, early Monday morning (Feb. 7, 2011) smiled and transitioned from earth to Glory.She was born on Feb. 26, 1925 to Lillie Ruth Jones and Walter P. Clark; and step-father, Robert Shade Jones in Russellville.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Jean (Terry) Moore, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Michael (Renee Bunche) Moore, Kingsport, Terita (Jonathan) Watson, Richmond, Calif., and TJ (Rebekah McCarty) Moore, Kingsport; six great-grandchildren, Annishia Moore, Toni and Mikesha Bradley, Michael I. Moore, all of Kingsport, Jordan and Jaylin Watson of Richmond, Calif.; one great-great-grandson, Cordé Moore, Kingsport; one sister, Margaret (Retired Command Sgt. Major James) Branner, Aberdeen, Md.; her faithful care-giving nieces and nephews, Patricia (Donald) Watts and Carolyn (Maurice) Butler, all of Kingsport and a host of special nieces and nephews too numerous to name. She was known as a special aunt, mamaw, cousin, and friend to m a n y.
The family would like to give special thanks to Holston Valley Medical Center, Amedisys Home Health, and BMA Dialysis Center for their special care given during her illness. Thanks to all her special neighbors whom she loved dearly at One Wilcox Place.

Dream Higgins
KINGSPORT — Dream Higgins, 17, of Kingsport, died suddenly Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2011), at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Chicago, Ill., where she resided most of her life, Dream just recently moved to Kingsport from Lake Mills, Iowa. She was a junior at Dobyns-Bennett High School and while in Lake Mills, she at- tended Lake Mills High School. Dream was active in thespian arts and was awarded State Champion in Literary Reading. She was also the Regional President of FFCLA. While in Lake Mills, Dream worked as a waitress at The Grand Café. She never met a stranger and had such a vibrant personality.
Survivors include her mother, Dr. Yemaya Gilliam, and husband, Anthony, of Kingsport; father, Courtney Higgins of Chicago, Ill.; sister, Destiny Gilliam of Kingsport; brother, Desmond Gilliam of Kingsport; maternal grandparents, Melody and Frederick Banks of Harvey, Ill.; paternal grandparents, Patricia Powell of Chicago, Ill., and William Higgins of Indianapolis, Ind.; maternal great-grandmother, Geneva Powers of Colbert, Ga.; great-aunt, Beverly Higgins of Chicago, Ill.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The service will begin at 3 p.m. with Pastor Jim Manis officiating.

Rev. James Ellis Snapp
KINGSPORT — Rev. James Ellis Snapp, 64, 949 Dale Street Kingsport, departed this life early Saturday morning, (Jan. 29, 2011) at Wellmont-Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Rev. Snapp was a life Citizens of Kingsport, he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, was the first African American police officer hired by the city of Kingsport; a member of Central Baptist Church and Assistant Pastor at Central Baptist Church. Rev. Snapp served as Chaplin of Vietnam Veterans of America and volunteered for the Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janie Mae Snapp; six daughters, Ms. Mary Elizabeth Snapp, Mrs. Shirley Long, Mrs. Teresa Harold, Mrs. Tammy
Franklin, Mrs. Peggy Britt and Mrs. Jeannie Bernard; 19 grandchildren; father, Mr. Charles A. Ellis Snapp; one brother, Mr. Arthur L. Snapp and a host of friends of other relatives.
Funeral service for Rev. James Ellis Snapp will be conducted on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church with Pastor Ricardo F. Dorcean, officiating.
