Lula Mae "Snook" Garrett
Lula Mae (Snook) Garrett was born Jan. 9, 1920 in Knoxville to the late Tom and Mamie Cox Eckels.
She departed this life on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at her home.
She married Elmer Pierce Garrett, and to this union, two sons were born.
Lula’s parents, husband and son, Toby, all preceded her in death.
The family resided in Kingsport for several years, and Lula was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Pierce (Deane) Garrett; grandsons, Perry Garrett and Josh Hoard; great-grandson, Devin and others; special friend, Maxine Long.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. at Dockery Funeral Home with the Rev. Donny Wade and the Rev. Johnny Jones officiating.
The family is grateful for Amedisys Hospice, and special thanks is given to Christy and Tracey, the special nurses.

Steven R. Williams
HOUSTON, Texas —Steven R. Williams, 63, died Friday evening at his home in Houston, Texas.
Born and raised in Kingsport, Steven resided in Houston for more than 25 years where he worked and retired from the Houston Chronicle. Steven was also a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Magnolia Williams; two brothers, James and Michael, and a sister, Diane (Sissy) Hale.
and Stephanie White, all of Houston; two sisters, Shelia Johnson and Patricia Skaggs, both of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Valeria Williams, Kingsport; brother-in-law, Carl Hale, Kingsport; several grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Steven’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered on the ocean.
Carnes Funeral Home, South Houston, Texas, served the Williams family.

Ms. Kathy Lavon Carpenter
KINGSPORT — Ms. Kathy Lavon Carpenter, 1713 Park St., departed this life Friday (Feb. 15, 2013) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Rockwood, Tenn., but resided in Kingsport, for most of her life. She was a member of Mount Zion Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James L and Nellie D. Swafford; her brother Xavier Timothy Hall; and the father of her children, Jeffery Carpenter.
She is survived by her three daughters Ms. Anissa Carpenter, Mrs. Jennifer (Rashid) Dunn, and Kaliegha Alexander; two sons Javonte and Damonte Alexander; a sister, Mrs. Janet Horton; two brothers, Edward Bridgeman and Donavon L James Hall; and an aunt, Mrs. Mildred Hardy; six grandchildren; five nieces; and three great-nieces.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at Mount Zion Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon from the church with Pastor Lester Turner officiating.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Joann Dailey Scott
KINGSPORT — Mrs. JoAnn D. Scott, 75, 550 Dale Street, Kingsport, departed this life Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2013) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
Mrs. Scott was born in Knox County, Tenn. She made her home in Rutledge, Morristown, Jonesborough and Kingsport.
She was a member of the Daughters of the Elk Dunbar Temple #344.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Daily and husband Mr. Robert “Bobby” L. Scott.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Stepfion Chesney; three brothers, Mr. Walter (Barbara) Evans, Sr., Mr. Petey A. Dailey and Mr. Joshua (Angela) Dailey; special devoted friend, Mr. Carl Swan.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church at 1 p.m. Rev Charles Hawkins officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of service.
Interment will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens, Washington County, Tenn.

ROGERSVILLE — Grace L. Etter of Etter Street, Rogersville, passed away at her residence Sunday (Jan. 20, 2013).
She graduated from Swift Memorial Junior College and continued her education at the Nashville Business Institution. She retired and returned to Rogersville in 1980 to care for her aging parents.
Grace was very active in her church and community, being a member of the American Legion and the NAACP, and was always a willing worker to do whatever she was asked to do.
She leaves to morn her memories, a sister, Ruby Watford, Harrisburg, Pa.; brother, Anthony Etter, Rogersville; sisters-in-law, Phillys Botts, Ashland, Ky.; JoAnn Etter, Philadelphia, Pa.; brothersin-law, Garfield Harris and Thomas Watford of Philadelphia, Pa.; uncle and aunt, Alfred Hale and Pearl Luvene of Rogersville; and a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Clara Hale Etter; three brothers and four sisters.
A going home celebration will be held at noon Saturday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Interment will follow in Mitchell Crest Cemetery.

KINGSPORT — Mrs. Cecilia Mae Henderson, 74, of Kingsport passed away Monday (Jan. 14, 2013), at a local hospital.
Mrs. Henderson was born on Feb. 20, 1938, the daughter of the late George and Alice Fanney Tucker of Sneedville, Tenn. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Henderson was employed with Eastman Chemical Co. as a lab tech. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church for 46 years before joining the Central Baptist Church family.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Tucker, Mack Ray Tucker, L.C. Tucker, and Hugh Kyle Tucker; by her sisters, Irene Rutledge, Georgia Lee Tucker, Inamae Tucker, Pauline Johnson and Mary Tucker.
Mrs. Henderson leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 54 years of marriage, Mr. James A. Henderson Sr.; her five children, Audrey Henderson of Chicago, Ill., of Berkeley, Willie Henderson Calif., James A. Henderson Jr. of Kingsport, Karen (Jerry) Machen of Nashville, Milicent (Eric) Mack of Carrollton, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jasen Machen, Dustin and Justin Machen of Nashville, Malcolm Dennis and Bria Mack of Carrollton, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Jayden Dennis of Carrollton, Ga. and Deserai Machen of Nashville; her brothers, William (Mildred) Tucker of Fort Washington, Md., and Oscar Tucker of Morristown, Tenn., Glenn (Brenda) Tucker of Sumter, S.C.; her sisters, Nina Jean Tucker of Washington, D.C., Lena (Terry) Griffin of Sneedville, Tenn., Edna (Hezekiah) Brown of Church Hill; along with a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, a special niece, Thelma Watterson of Kingsport; dear friends, Gladys Hyder of Kingsport and Rose Darnell of Cleveland, Ohio. Also, many good neighbors, whom she counted as friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Henderson will be conducted on Friday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the East Lawn Funeral Home with her pastor, Rev. Ricardo Dorcean, son-in-law, Rev. Eric Mack and Mr. Rolax Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
Mrs. Henderson’s grandsons and other family members will serve as active pallbearers.
