Norman Lee Hill

KINGSPORT — Norman Lee Hill, 72, of Kingsport, died Thursday (July 2, 2009) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Avondale, N.C., he resided in Statesville, N.C., and Queens, N.Y., before moving to Kingsport in 2006. He was a graduate of Morningside High School in Statesville, N.C. Mr. Hill retired from the Iredell-Statesville School System in North Carolina and drove for Lewis Taxi in Statesville as well.
Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie E. Bristol; sisters, Orzina Smith and Christeen Black; and brother, Jimmy Carpenter.
He is survived by a daughter, Kiesha Hill; and a grandson, Gregory Graham, both of Flushing, N.Y.; sisters, Evelyn (Avery) Logan, Mary (Stanford) Treece and Cleo (Arthur) Charles, all of Kingsport; brothers, James Henry, Clifton (Leslie) Carpenter and William Carpenter, all of Kingsport and Richard Henry of Nashville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends today (July 8, 2009) from 1 to 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church or anytime at the home of the sister, Mary Treece.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Billy Pearson officiating.
Graveside services will follow the funeral at Holston View Cemetery.
