Mrs. Elnora M. Simpson

KINGSPORT — Evangelist Elnora M. Simpson, 76, Kingsport, departed this life Saturday (May 8, 2010).

She was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Kingsport, to Irene Horton and Sonny Pierce. She was a graduate of Douglass High School. She served faithfully in several capacities at Mount Zion Tabernacle Holiness Church. She was currently the superintendent of the Sunday school, former president of the Women’s Auxiliary, assistant pianist, co-sponsor for the Pastor’s Appreciation Committee for 20 years, a licensed evangelist of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Inc., and Evangelist Simpson served at Mount Zion Tabernacle faithfully for 35 plus years.
She retired after 20 years of faithful service as a custodial assistant at Mafair United Methodist Church, Sept. 15, 2000.
She was married to Ralph Simpson who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two children, Freddie Lynn Horton and Glenda (Michael) Vaughn; her granddaugh - ter, Keisha (Keith) Hill of Nebraska; two great- Shiarre and grandchildren, Patrick “PJ” Porter of Nebraska; stepsisters, Annie Pierce and Betty Pierce; stepbrothers, Jeffrey Pierce and Cecil Pierce; a host of special cousins, dear sisters and brothers in Christ, her Mount Zion Tabernacle Church family; and special friend, Mr. Ellis Snapp.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. Thursday until time of service at Mount Zion Holiness Church.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at noon at the church with Pastor Lester Turner officiating.
Interment service will follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
