KINGSPORT — Mrs. Wilma V. Henderson Gaines, 81, 2701 E. Center St., Apt. 300, departed this life on Thursday (May 6, 2010) at the Wellmont Bristol Hospice House.
Mrs. Gaines was born in Madisonville, Tenn., and made her home in Kingsport for the past 50 years. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and she was the wife of the late Rev. James B. Gaines. Mrs. Gaines was involved in many activities at the Kiwanis Towers where she resided for the past 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James B. Gaines; one son, Herald Gaines; father, Mr. Leonard Gaines and mother, Flora Henderson; six brothers and one sister.
Survived by one son, Mr. James Lovell Gaines, Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren, Mrs. Tina Gaines (Henry) Stokely, Kingsport, Ms. Lovelle Gaines, Detroit, Mich., and Mr. Christopher Gaines, Detroit, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Gena Jackson, Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Novella (Paul) Caldwell, Inver Grove, Minn., and Mrs. Magnolia Blair, Madisonville, Tenn.; one brother, Mr. Harold Henderson, Sterling Heights, Mich.; special friends, Mrs. Bernice Hardy, Kingsport, Mrs. Betty Jo Cody, Morristown; and many friends at Kiwanis Towers.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the hour of service on Monday at Shiloh Baptist Church.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 7 p.m. at church with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Calvert officiating.
The interment service will conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Park City Cemetery in Madisonville, Tenn. The cortege will depart the church at 9 a.m.
