Larry Wayne Hennsey

LARRY WAYNE HENNSEY
Aug. 21, 1950 - March 11, 2013

A lifelong resident of Virginia, Larry Wayne Hennsey was born to the late Annie Coward and Willie “Cuz” Richardson. He was educated in the Wise County Public School System. Following graduation from Powell Valley High School in Big Stone Gap, Larry relocated to Gainesville to work at Atlas Iron Works.

After a number of years, Larry returned to school to study computers. He  worked in the IT Department for Winn Labs for 10 years. Furthering his career, Larry transitioned to the IT Department of George MasonUniversity, where he worked as a Lead IT Technician for the past thirteen years.

Larry was united in marriage on Nov. 29, 1974 to the former Charlotte Anne Simpson. They made their home in Manassas, VA and to this union, one son was born. Larry was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal brother and a grandfather of whom his grandsons could be proud. One who encountered persons from all walks of life, Larry will be remembered as humble, fun loving and easygoing. Never complaining, he radiated a countenance of inner peace in his every day walk. 

It has been said that if you look up the definition of “friend,” you would find a picture of Larry. 

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Camp; his father, Willie Richardson; his stepfather, Lester Camp; his grandparents, Ollie and ElizabethVirginia Hennsey; brother-in-law, Tony Squire; sister, Aeyrer Smithers.

.He leaves to mourn his wife of 38 years, Charlotte Hennsey; two sons, Sean Hennsey of Manassas and Sam Griffin of Chantilly; two grandsons, Shaquan Hennsey of Manassas and DeShawn Nibblins of Woodbridge; 10 brothers, Donald Hennsey, Big Stone Gap; Willie (Nancy) Bush, Reston; Yanthophalees Jackson, Big Stone Gap; Braeuster (Brenda) Jackson, Fort Washington, Md.; Jakkae Jackson, Big Stone Gap; Grayland (Tonya) Jackson, Nashville, Tenn.; Arriod (Gwendolyn) Jackson, Fort Washington, Md.; Xavier Jackson, Charlottesville, Va.; Klaistrae Jackson, Lexington, Ky.; and Eupton (Sheri) Jackson, Bowie, Md.; six sisters, Margaret Baldwin, Charlotte, N.C.; Betsy Ann Fortune, Baltimore, Md.; Eileen Jackson, Big Stone Gap; Ivy (Nelson) Adekoya, Grayson, Ga.; Ayris Jackson, Roanoke, Va.; and Jamara (Jamar) Davis, Elkton; father and mother-in-law, Randall and Viola Simpson, Big Stone Gap; four brothers-in-law, Randall (Jackie) Simpson Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio; Tracy Simpson, Fairfax; Dain Simpson, Dumfries; and James Smithers, Richmond; two sisters-in-law, Tara Squire, Big Stone Gap; Edith (EB) Costner, Charlotte, N.C.; devoted cousins, the Bush and Burpo Family; one great grandchild; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service was held in Manassas on March 21,2013. A memorial service celebrating the life of Larry will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6th at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Sandra L. Jones officiating.
