BRANDON, Miss. — William “Bill” Horton, 62, of Brandon, Miss., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Bill was born in Appalachia, Va. His early years were spent in Kingsport, Tenn., where he graduated from Douglass High School. William served in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman.

For several years he was employed with Central Parking Corporation, where he served as Parking Manager in several assignments, which included places such as Winston-Salem, N.C., Atlanta, Ga., Memphis, Tenn., and Jackson, Miss. His most recent employment was with the University of Mississippi, where he was Director of Parking; Transportation Systems and Transportation Services.

Bill enjoyed the Tennessee Volunteers and no matter where his duty station was located, he managed to secure a ticket for a seat at Neyland Stadium. In addition to his love for sports, Bill had a fondness for boating and marine life, which he exercised greatly on the Ross Barnet reservoir located in Brandon, Miss. His greatest joy was acquiring a 36-foot Trojan cabin cruiser, and his second-greatest joy was selling it! He enjoyed playing basketball when younger, playing cards and golfing.

He is survived by his daughter, Latasha of High Point, N.C.; his brothers, Edward Horton of Kingsport, Tenn., Marvin McWilliams of Reidsville, Ga., and Melvin McWilliams of Lansing, Mich.; sisters, Hattie Hill of San Francisco, Calif., Gail Collins of Culpepper, Va., and Deborah Collins of Memphis, Tenn.; and a special friend, Mertis White of Ridgeland, Miss.
