Ozine Ivan Bly, Sr.


CHURCH HILL - Ozine Ivan Bly, Sr. was called home on April 21, 2016 after a brief illness. 

He was a pillar of both the Kingsport and New Canton Community of Church Hill. During his 76 years he dedicated his life to helping others and doing what he could do to advance the situation of those who needed him the most. 


He served the Kingsport Community as a former member of the Kingsport Housing Authority Board, the South Central Community Board, the Riverview Community Action Board, the Sons and Daughters of Douglass Alumni Board of Directors, and a charter member of the Great Golden Gathering of North East TN Board, member of the Kingsport Tomorrow Community Organization. He was a founding member of the New Canton Utility District Board, Honorary member of the Lyons Chapel Church, Hope Community Church and the New Canton Community Club, and a former member of the Church Hill Election Commission. Ozine was lovingly referred to as the "Mayor of New Canton."


   He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Bly, mother, Gladys Bly, father, Prentis Ivan "Crip" Taylor, sister, Priscilla Bly, brothers, Buster, Charles "Pap" and James Bly.


Survivors include his daughter; Laynette (Reggie) Alley, sons; Ozine Ivan (Edith) Bly, Jr., Nathan (Myra) Leeper. Grandsons; Prennis Alley and Nicholas Wolfe, granddaughter; Alexandria Wolfe. Great grandchildren; Ayden Shelton and Tessa Wolfe. Sisters; Dallas Waterson, Edith Jackson, Janie Goodwin, Delores Bly, Judy Phillips. Honorary son; Marlon Lyons and special friends William "Billy" Lyons, Jack Pierce and Angel Smith.  

Going home services will be held at 2 pm Sunday, April 24th at the Hope Community Church, 4540 West Stone Drive, Kingsport, TN. Pastor Doug Mouser will be officiating, and burial will follow in the Church Hill Memorial Gardens. 

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Sunday at the Church, and anytime at his residence.
