David Roseborough

KINGSPORT — David Roseborough, 62, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday (Feb. 18, 2014) at his residence after a long illness.

Mr. Roseborough was born in Rock Hill, S.C., was a former resident of Fayetteville, N. C. and had lived in Kingsport most of his life.

He was a graduate of E.E. Smith Senior High School, Fayetteville, where he was an outstanding football and basketball player.
David retired as a heavy equipment operator, having worked on site preparation on Interstate 26, Interstate 81, Highway 11-W, Highway 394, Sullivan North High School, Sullivan South High School and Wellmont Bristol Regional Hospital. He was a member of A.M.E. Zion Church. David coached in the Kingsport City Parks and Recreational League.

Mr. Roseborough was preceded in death by his parents, James and Wilhelmina Stothers Roseborough Sr.; brother, James Brice Roseborough Jr.; sister, Carrie Fisher; niece, Leia Humpherys; brother in law, Quincy Evans; father in law, Joseph Fullen Vance; and a sister in law, Donna Vance.

He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 44 years, Wanda Vance Roseborough of the home; sisters, Alice Evans, Willie Catherine Roseborough, Francene Allen and husband, Ronnie, Josie Louise Roseborough, Mamie Humphreys, all of Fayetteville, Debora Ann Roseborough of Elizabeth City, N. C. and Myra Marie Welch and husband, Kelvin “Brian” of Raleigh, N.C.; brothers, Joe Brice and wife Chris of Alton, Ill., Danny W. Roseborough and wife Marilyn of The Republic of Korea and Joseph Roseborough and wife Teresa of Atlanta, Ga.; mother-inlaw, Faye Vance of Abingdon, Va.; sisters-in-law, Brenda Horn and husband, Gary of Richlands, Va., Joyce Blankenship and husband, Sam, Sandra Vance all of Abingdon, Karen Mullins and husband Tom, Mellissa Horne and husband Kenny of Oakwood, Va., Sherry Coleman and husband Donald of Kingsport, and Sylvia Roseborough of Columbia S.C.; brothers-in-law, Willard Vance, Ralph Vance and wife Wanda all of Oakwood, Ricky Vance of Church Hill, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews and several great- nieces and great-nephews.

A Private Celebration of Life Gathering for family, neighbors and close friends, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport.

Mr. Roseborough will be taken to Wiseman Mortuary, 431 Cumberland St., Fayetteville, N.C.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Union Oak A.M.E. Zion Church, 6544 Highway 301 South, Hope Mills, N.C.
A graveside will follow at Rockfish Memorial Park, 4017 Gillespie St., Fayetteville, N.C.

He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley; his son, William Darryll; two grandchildren, Althea Johnson and Pierre Valladay, Jr.; three great- grandchildren, two siblings, George and John; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

James Lenor “Boy” Bly

KINGSPORT — Mr. James Lenor “Boy” Bly, 63, 625 Nelson St. Apt. 168, entered into this world on Sept. 19, 1950, and entered into his rest on Dec. 17, 2013, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport. James was surrounded by his loving wife and family and the welcoming arms of Jesus.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Ms. Gladys Bly and Printes Taylor; two brothers, Buster and Charles Bly; two sisters, Ms. Helen and Ms. Ruth Taylor; and a beloved sister-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Jean Long-Bly.

Survivors include Mrs. Sandee Scott-Bly his wife, of the home; his daughter, Ms. Brittanee T. Scott, Limestone; two grandchildren, Jaylen T. Scott and Gavin P. Webb; one brother, Ozine (late Mrs. Barbara) Bly, New Canton; five sisters, Ms. Dallas Watterson, Ms. Janie Goodwin, Ms. Delores Blye, Ms. Judy Phillips, all of Kingsport; and Ms. Edith Jackson, Knoxville; a special mother-in-law, Ms. Bernadine Scott. A host of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday at the Central Baptist Church at 2 p.m.

The family will be receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church and other times at the residence.

Betty D. Rogers

ROGERSVILLE — Betty D. Rogers, 63, of Rogersville, fell asleep awaiting for the Lord’s return on Wednesday (Nov. 6. 2013) at her residence.

She was a member of Hasson Street Christian Church. She was retired from the Hawkins County School System as a head start teacher.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Lou Hale.

She is survived by her husband, Archie Rogers, Jr.; sisters, Cheryl (Rommie) Argo and Dorothy (Harvey) Wilmer of Kingsport, Della (Jerry) Tate of Talbott, Doretha Hale of Knoxville, Samantha Maxwell of Rogersville; brothers, Jimmy Kyle and Jeff Hale of Rogersville; sisters-in-law, Brenda, Edna, and Georgia Rogers of Rogersville, Claudia Horton and Diana Rogers of Atlanta, and Hazel (Michael) Nordman of Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Fred (Charlotte) Rogers of Morristown; aunt, Sarah Ann Ford of Kingsport; special nephews, Cory and Morgan Maxwell; and a host of special friends and relatives.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christian-Sells Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Charles officiating.

William Louis Lyons

ROGERSVILLE — William Louis Lyons, 78, peacefully departed this life at his home on Saturday morning, (Nov. 2, 2013).

He was a life-long resident of Hawkins County. He was educated in the Hawkins County School System. William retired as a Medical Attendant from Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport. He attended the Rogersville Church of God. William was a quiet man who led a simple life and was loved by his family. He was the son of the late William Harry and Juanita Lyons.

He is preceded in death by his brother, David Lyons.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Hazel; sisters, Mary Brice, Maude Fugate; sister-in-law, Edith Lyons; brother-in-law, Herman (Agnes) Buttry; sister-in-law, Ruth (Paul), Jesse, all of Rogersville; step daughters, Judy Miller of Sneedville, Tammy Elmore of Knoxville; nieces, Tina (Michael) Goins of Knoxville, Sharon Austin, Fayetteville, N.C., Ruby Brice or Rogersville; nephews, Keith (Vivian) Lyons, Hampton, Va., Herman “Tiny” Brice, and Bobby “Nookie” Burton Jr. of Rogersville; three grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren.

Barbara J. Bly

CHURCH HILL — Barbara Jean (Long) Bly was born on June 28, 1943 and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (Oct. 31, 2013).

Barbara was born and raised in the New Canton community in Church Hill, Tenn. where she attended Lyons Chapel Church. She attended

Swift High School and Walters State Community College. She was a graduate of the Kingsport School of Nursing where she received her LPN3 license. She was employed for 26 years as a nurse at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, before retiring in 1997.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She was always willing to lend a helping hand.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Maggie Long; brother, William Thomas (Sunny-boy) Long; and sister, Cathy Leeper.

She is survived by her father, William Thomas Long, Sr.; husband, Ozine I. Bly, Sr.; daughter, Laynette and Reginald Alley; sons, O. Ivan and Edith Bly, Jr., Nathan and Myra Leeper; granddaughter, Alex Wolfe; grandsons, Nichlous Wolfe and Prennis Alley; sisters, Irene Richmond, Helen Long, Inez Gillepie, Marlene and Roy Richmond, Romelda Moore; brothers, Danny Long, Joe Leeper; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home of Church Hill and anytime at the residence.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Comage officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday following the service at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Keith Richmond, Randy Moore, Ryan Moore, Roy Richmond, Nichlous Wolfe, and Prennis Alley. Honorary pallbearers will be William Lyons and Richard Ford.
