Clinton J. Lyons


RICHMOND, Va. — Clinton J. Lyons was born on May 27, 1938, to the late Wylie Clinton (Sam) and Ophelia Lyons and departed this life March 4, 2012.

He retired after a 31-year career in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He completed two tours as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War and was awarded 27 air medals, three Silver Stars and a Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church in Henrico County (Varina), Va.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Thomas, Roy, Buford and Jerome; and sisters, Evelyn Simmons, Frances Pasley, Lulu B. Kinnard, and Hazel Leeper.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lucy Lyons; daughters, Leanna and Yolanda Lyons; granddaughter, Christa Lyons; brothers, Gene and Cecil Lyons; nieces, Gail Leeper, Pam Hoard, Gwen Sockram, Myra Leeper, and Carol Masters; and a host of loving nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy. 11-W, Church Hill, Tenn.

A funeral service will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor James Sailes officiating.

A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Hawkins County Color Guard and the Tennessee National Guard conducting the rites.

The Color Guard will serve as pallbearers.
