GATE CITY, Va. — Wallace Ross Sr., loving husband and father, 88, of Gate City, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Feb. 28, 2012), after a brief illness.
Born on Oct. 31, 1923, in Louisa County, Va., Mr. Ross retired after more than 41 years of service at Eastman Kodak Co. He worked many years with Kingsport Development and was a member of Elks Clinch Mountain Lodge. Mr. Ross was a faithful member and servant of Hales Chapel United Methodist Church in Gate City, Va. He served as church treasurer for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Ross and Addie Fountain Ross; sisters, Elizabeth Ross and Martha Wilson; brothers, George Fortune and Albert “Peter” Ross; wife, Doretha Wiggins Ross; and an adopted nephew, Calvin “Kenny” Price Jr.
He is survived by his son, Wallace W. Ross Jr., Gate City, Va.; daughters, Geneva Ross, Washington, D.C., and Mary Courtney, Weber City, Va.; grandchildren, Keana N. Ross, Washington, D.C., and Jonikki Cope and husband, Ronald, Gate City, Va.; greatgrandchildren, Lakesha and Shaniquah, Gate City, Va.; niece, Adline Hale, Virginia Beach, Va.; extended adopted family of Church Hill, nieces, Valerie L. Shivers, Leslie R. Carpenter and husband, Clifton, JoRita Ferguson, Melissa Williams and husband, Richard; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime Friday at the residence.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at noon in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steve Templeton and Pastor Rochelle Maxwell officiating.
Music will be provided by the Hales Chapel Church Choir.
Interment will follow in the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
Pallbearers will be Buster Stacey, Ronald Cope, Gordon Wood, Charles Senior, Stanley Rogers and Richard Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Muncey, James Wood, Charles Wood and Richard Maxwell.
