Xavier “Tim” Hall

KINGSPORT — Xavier Timothy “Tim” Hall, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord at his residence on Monday (March 19, 2012).


Tim was born in Harriman, Tenn., on Jan. 20, 1973. He moved to Kingsport at an early age. He was raised by Nelly Swafford and the late James Swafford. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett in 1992. He was an active member of then Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Tim was the founder of New Vision Youth. He was a strong pillar in the community. His accolades consist of: Xavier Entertainment, The Xavie Hall Show-Flavor of Xavier and an endless community activist.

He was employed at Verizon Wireless in Johnson City.

Tim will be remembered as a loving father, son and friend who loved his family and community.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ron Hall; his grandmothers, Cecil Hall and Sampson Hall.

Survivors include his fiancĂ©e, Jessica Wiggins; his children, Rylee Billings, Justice Hall, Briana Hall, Zoe Hall, Xavier “Lily” Hall and Bryson Hall; his mother, Shelia Hall; aunt, Nellie Swafford; his sisters, Janet Horton and Kathy Carpenter; brothers, Orlando Hall, Donavon Hall and Jeremy Reed; a special father figure, Henry Taylor; his best friend, Paul “Kinfolk” Hall; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 10 to 12 noon Saturday at Central Baptist Church. Services will follow.

Burial will be at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Xavier "Tim" Hall

Xavier Timothy Hall's funeral will be Friday March 23, 2012 in Harriman, TN at St Mary's from 1 P-M to 3 P-M.

Then, Saturday March 24, 2012 at the Central Baptist Church, Kingsport from 10 A-M to 12 Noon. The final resting is at the Eastlawn Cemetery in Kingsport.

Eugene Kincaid Passing


Eugene Kincaid, the eldest of the Kincaid children of Jack and Sarah, and Douglass Class of '65, has passed in Nashville.

Mason Tyree Stuart

APPALACHIA, Va. — Mason Tyree Stuart, 20, passed away Tuesday (March 6, 2012).


He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church and was a graduate of Appalachia High School. He was a longtime employee of McDonalds in Big Stone Gap.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harry Stuart; grandparents, Edna and Clifford Taylor, great-grandparents, Hazel and Cleo Mitchell; uncles, Pete Davis and Ronnie Mitchell.

Mason is survived by his grandmother, Elizabeth Stuart of Appalachia; parents, Hobby and Angie Stuart of the home; sisters, Danielle Brickey of the home, Chantae Sheppard of Appalachia; brothers, Devin Brickey and Forrest Stuart, both of the home; aunts and uncles, Walter Stuart, Harry “Bo” Stuart, Ronald Davis, Paul Davis, Valerie Coates, Maxine Craig, Caroline Hall, Kenneth Taylor, Gregory Taylor, Bobby Mitchell; a host of family and friends that love and will deeply miss Mason.

The family will receive friends at the Appalachia Pentecostal Church from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Jimmy Mitchell officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oakview Cemetery, Big Stone Gap.

Clinton J. Lyons


RICHMOND, Va. — Clinton J. Lyons was born on May 27, 1938, to the late Wylie Clinton (Sam) and Ophelia Lyons and departed this life March 4, 2012.

He retired after a 31-year career in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He completed two tours as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War and was awarded 27 air medals, three Silver Stars and a Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church in Henrico County (Varina), Va.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Thomas, Roy, Buford and Jerome; and sisters, Evelyn Simmons, Frances Pasley, Lulu B. Kinnard, and Hazel Leeper.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lucy Lyons; daughters, Leanna and Yolanda Lyons; granddaughter, Christa Lyons; brothers, Gene and Cecil Lyons; nieces, Gail Leeper, Pam Hoard, Gwen Sockram, Myra Leeper, and Carol Masters; and a host of loving nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 1115 Hwy. 11-W, Church Hill, Tenn.

A funeral service will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor James Sailes officiating.

A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Hawkins County Color Guard and the Tennessee National Guard conducting the rites.

The Color Guard will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Gladys Thomas


KINGSPORT — Mrs. Gladys Davis Thomas, 80, 1401 University Blvd, Bradley Hills Apts. #C - 1, departed this life Friday, (March 2, 2012) at her home, after a brief illness.

She was born in Shell Creek, Tenn. and spent most of her life here in Kingsport.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joseph Davis; her former husband, Otis Davis; her husband, Curtis Thomas; her parents, John and Mrs. Minnie Hardy; brothers Ernest and Luther as well as sisters, Katherine, Josephine Hazel, Mary Lou and Beatrice all preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her beautiful memory are daughters Mrs. Gloria (James) Whiteside, Mrs. Hilda (Danny) Webb, Ms. Melody Hope Davis, and Mrs. Valorie (Gary) Thompson. She had five grandchildren, Matt Sellers, Russell Watterson Jr, Tyron Campbell, Peppertona Muller, and Jolene Davis. She also had 12 great- grandchildren. Ms. Bernice Hardy is her only remaining sibling. There are many nieces and nephews that will miss this wonderful lady, as well as anyone that had the pleasure of being her friend.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:30 a.m. from Central Baptist Church with Rev Matthew Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will follow at the VA National Cemetery, Mt. Home, Tenn.

Wallace Ross, Sr.

GATE CITY, Va. — Wallace Ross Sr., loving husband and father, 88, of Gate City, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Feb. 28, 2012), after a brief illness.


Born on Oct. 31, 1923, in Louisa County, Va., Mr. Ross retired after more than 41 years of service at Eastman Kodak Co. He worked many years with Kingsport Development and was a member of Elks Clinch Mountain Lodge. Mr. Ross was a faithful member and servant of Hales Chapel United Methodist Church in Gate City, Va. He served as church treasurer for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Ross and Addie Fountain Ross; sisters, Elizabeth Ross and Martha Wilson; brothers, George Fortune and Albert “Peter” Ross; wife, Doretha Wiggins Ross; and an adopted nephew, Calvin “Kenny” Price Jr.

He is survived by his son, Wallace W. Ross Jr., Gate City, Va.; daughters, Geneva Ross, Washington, D.C., and Mary Courtney, Weber City, Va.; grandchildren, Keana N. Ross, Washington, D.C., and Jonikki Cope and husband, Ronald, Gate City, Va.; greatgrandchildren, Lakesha and Shaniquah, Gate City, Va.; niece, Adline Hale, Virginia Beach, Va.; extended adopted family of Church Hill, nieces, Valerie L. Shivers, Leslie R. Carpenter and husband, Clifton, JoRita Ferguson, Melissa Williams and husband, Richard; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime Friday at the residence.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at noon in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steve Templeton and Pastor Rochelle Maxwell officiating.

Music will be provided by the Hales Chapel Church Choir.

Interment will follow in the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Pallbearers will be Buster Stacey, Ronald Cope, Gordon Wood, Charles Senior, Stanley Rogers and Richard Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Muncey, James Wood, Charles Wood and Richard Maxwell.
