Lina Hendricks McCord

McCORD, Lina Hendricks Age 86 of Nashville. January 29, 2010. Retired executive with the United Methodist Church's national education agency.


Earned degrees from Morristown (Tenn.) College and Tennessee State University. Member of Clark Memorial United Methodist Church in Nashville for more than 60 years.

Remembered as the consummate hostess and loving surrogate mother to college students and other young people. Her husband, Jerry D. McCord II, three brothers and one sister preceded in death.

Survived by one sister, Lillian Ann Walton; a son and daughter, Jerry D. (Kathy) McCord III and Lina Cheryl (Vernon) Acklin; two grandsons, Jerry D. "D.J." (Bridget) McCord IV and William M.A. "Tony" McCord; two granddaughters, Skyler Bonné Acklin and Lina Camryn Acklin; one great-granddaughter, Lauren D. McCord; four nieces, Bunella (Richard) Brown, Janice (Ronnie) Cunningham, Gaynell (Fred) McIver, Mary Ella (Tony) Jackson; four nephews, Clyde Collins, Wilbur (Carolyn) Hendricks, Jr., Gallie (Tina) Hendricks; Thomas (Tracey) Hendricks; a first cousin, Ada Sue Fletcher (and other beloved relatives in the Sheffey, Gentry and McCord families); and devoted friends, Peggy Wilson, and Mac and Henrietta McAllister.

Viewing Friday, February 5, 2010 from 12 Noon - 7 p.m., at Clark Memorial United Methodist Church, 1014 - 14th Avenue North and Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 10-11 a.m., with funeral to follow at Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church, 2334 Herman St. Interment Monday, February 8, 2010 at 10 a.m., at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
