Mr. B.L. Underwood III

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mr. Barney Lafayette (B.L.) Underwood III, Washington, D.C., departed this life early Saturday morning (Feb. 13, 2010) at his residence in Washington, D.C.

Born March 14, 1948, in Kingsport, Mr. Underwood has been in Washington, D.C., for the past 40 years. He attended Morristown College in Morristown and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. At the time of his death, he was an employee of Post Office Service in Merrifield, Va. 22116 as one of the supervisors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lafayette Underwood; mother, Mrs. Helen Underwood Fain; stepfather, Mr. Charles Fain; brother, Charles Reginald (Reggie) Underwood; brother-inlaw, Mr. Clarence Abbott.
Left to mourn are his two sons, Cory Underwood, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Eric Underwood; three sisters, Mrs. Lillian (Clifford) Leeper and Mrs. Sandra Wilmer, both of Church Hill, and Mrs. Bonnie Jean Abbott, Washington, D.C.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Marilyn Underwood, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews; several cousins, grandchildren; grandnephew and nieces; two aunts, Shirley (Willie) Liggett, Arlington, Va., and Ethel Ruth Russell, Kingsport; special friends, Andrea Watterson, Kingsport, Sandra Branch, Maryland, and Shirley (Cookie) Cureton and family of Washington, D.C.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. Friday until the hour of service at Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Charles Hawkins officiating.
Interment will be at the V.A. National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn.
