KINGSPORT — Perry Douglas Long, 42, of Kingsport, went to be at peace with Jesus on Saturday (Feb. 13, 2010) after a brief illness.
Born in Kingsport, where he lived most of his life, Perry graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and entered the U.S. Army shortly after graduation. While in high school, Perry played football and ran track. He had worked at Tele-Optics for many years and was currently working as a Systems Analyst at Eastman Chemical Company. Perry was a loving husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Maurice “Reese” Long.
Perry is survived by his wife, Melanie Jaye McKinney-Long, of the home; daughter,
Taylor Jaye Long of the home; sons, Jaryd Thacker of Church Hill and Bryson McKinney Long of the home; mother, Mary Elizabeth Long of Kingsport; sister, Melisa Long of Kingsport; brother, Phillip “Meech” Long of Birmingham, Ala.; and one nephew and two nieces.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, with the Rev. Frank Waldo and the Rev. Donny Wade officiating.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with living expenses.
