Mr. Herbert Carter

BRISTOL, Va. — Mr. Herbert Burton (H.B.) Carter, 88, 823 Maple Street, Bristol, Va., departed this life on Friday (Dec. 17, 2010) at James H Quillen VA. Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn. after a brief illness.

Mr. Carter was born in Thorpe, W.Va. He made his home in Bristol for several years, Mr. Carter was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Lee Street Baptist Church where he served on the Men’s Usher Board and retired from Cowan Brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Charles and Mrs. Mary Carter; two brothers, Mr. Wifred H. Carter and Mr. William E. Carter.

Survived by two daughters, Mrs. Maria Carter (James “Pete”) Redmon and Mrs. Teresa C. (Thomas) Brown; three grandchildren, Robynn Chavez, Teresa Francesconi and Bradley L. Carter; four great-grandchildren, James Francesconi, Brianne Rhoton, Ally Rhoton and Jalyn Carter; one sister, Mrs. Charmie G. Horton; aunt and his special friend, Mrs. Lillie B. Carter.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at Lee Street Baptist Church.  Services will be conducted at 12 noon on Thursday at the church with Dr. W.A. Johnson officiating.

The interment will follow at V.A. National Cemetery Mountain Home, Tenn.
